"Yosemite Sam here...I have replaced my old and slow horse with a more powerful ride"

"Them varmints are always getting away!"

"The local blacksmith has promised me a fast ride with lots of horses"

"That hombre has hammered and welded and soldered and banged up a variation of the Super Bandit"

"Just wait you'll see it soon!"

Yosemite Sam says

"Still a work in progress, but this here's the chassis for my new ride"

"Those rascals and whippersnappers won't get away from me now!"

"Maybe I should tell how we got here..."

Tink the Blacksmith of Toonerville:

"We started out with a very basic configuration and we had a suspension rear end with a regular front end."

"We also did not have the original special style front axle / tongue / guide-flag hole assembly so we shored-up a regular tongue cut to help emulate the wheel base and  guide-flag distance to the center-line of the front 1/8 free-wheeling axle."

"We also did not have the original wheels or axles, and we intended to use modern silicone foam rear wheels & tires anyway so..."

"A neat set of La Cucaracha Roller-Bearing front wheels with knife-edge tires were selected for this hybrid version of the regular Bandit layout."

"Knock off three prong axle keepers were installed up front." "A Jet-flag Guide and a weight on the mount were used to help anchor this ride."

"Finally we were going to use a modern Black 48 Pitch Crown gear, maker escapes me."

"Then, impossible to-get-parts became available, making reality a possibility!"

Yosemite Sam:

"Tink will continues the build up!"

“Test installation of a Kimble bearing drive stock FT16D can drive was next.”

“Looked good but now we decided to up the ante and make this a Super Bandit!”

“Using a Rewound SVP Motor and changing the front end to a suspension version did the trick.”

“We also changed the rear Crown to a Tradeship Delrin version.”

“One of the important items to having a somewhat proper Bandit is the unique one-piece body mount!”

“Obtaining this item allowed this planned project to finally move forward.”

“First, Mike DiVuolo donated an original one! That was great”

“Then I also obtained one from Larry Horner. Also great as I need extras for various projects on the Dynamic Chassis System”

“Lastly, Martin Windmill made up a batch of them as well and also some for the Renegade.”

“First I installed the original one and it things started to get  exciting!”

“Finally we settled on the MW example for this project. I am keeping the other two handy for future projects”

I'll take it from here.

Body mounted.
2v2H2KZzrxubMLY.jpg

Slight change to the rear axle spacers.  The nylon spacers were binding up the rear suspension so I cut a set of 1/4" brass tubes and pushed the rear wheels out to 3 and 1/8".

2v2H2KQb2xubMLY.jpg

Up front, the hinge and the body contact at the front Dynamic weight.
Probably not a problem but grinding the vintage part is not my worry.  (Make a note David)

2v2H2KQErxubMLY.jpg

Now, time for paint!
The design calls for a couple cartoon .45 pistols painted alongside the car.

So, to that end I drew up a drawing, scanned it and then printed them at various sizes.

2v2H2KQfMxubMLY.jpg

Now, brushes selected, paint ready and the drawings taped inside the body.
I use a stack of 8-track tapes to tape the body up so I can paint both sides.
Probably take all day to paint both sides inside and out.  But this is my favorite part. ;-)

2v2H2KQt3xubMLY.jpg

Hold my beer, I'm going in!

Here is the drawing provided by the owner giving me the direction for the design.

2v2H21i5UxubMLY.jpg

Here is the gun paint almost finished.

2v2H21iruxubMLY.jpg

I say "almost" because it needed highlites in a brighter silver.

2v2H21i8zxubMLY.jpg

Done for now.  Needs to dry for a time and then back to the bench.  Updates as they happen.

Paint is time consuming.
Not so much the application.  It's the masking and then the drying.
Sheesh.....

Okay, Saturday I painted the wood grain but that took forever to dry being Enamel.  Some of the exterior One-Shot remained soft all Sunday as well.
Monday I tackled the gold foil.  Here are a few pics.

2v2H2mWpvxubMLY.jpg

The foil is really thin and rips easily so be careful.  The glue is something I have had since 1985 which we modelers used to attach chrome foil to molded trim on model cars.  Bottle is still half full after all these years.
Take one down, pass it around and Jeffery Epstein didn't kill himself!

Below is brushing on the pressure sensitive adhesive.  It washes up with water and can be removed with alcohol.
Wait till it's dried to clear before applying the gold foil.

Finished body after outlining the gold with black One-Shot this morning.
Now it sits for a day to completely dry.  Then some racers tape and final pictures tomorrow.

Final pictures.  No surprises, the body fits as well as it should.
I added a some clear packing tape over the gold leaf and racers tape over the body mounts to prevent paint scuffing.
Go out today in the mail.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Anyone wondering why the wood doesn't look as detailed as real wood grain.... well, there are two clear reasons.
#1 The guns are cartoon guns.  Premis of this car is Warner Bros. Yosemity Sam being the "Bandit".  Therefore the rest of the car looks like a cartoon.
#2 Have you ever detail painted on the inside a tiny little body like this?  Sheesh, it's like making a ship in a bottle.

Yes I get the cartoon look.

I did a Flinstone car for my son years ago, and decide to give it the wood grain cartoon effect.

My wife did the Barney suit because he was blonde when he was 3 years old.
