Retro Stock Cars on the Figure 8 – 10/8/19
Retro Stock Cars returned to the Figure 8 this week for the 2nd time in three weeks. The field was comprised of seven MVH Tuesday night regulars. Racing was in the familiar 4/4 format with two corner marshals and one person to run the computer.
Stock Cars in Tech:
The early racing was tight as four racers were in the hunt for the win. By the move to the inside lanes Peter Lentros was in 4th place with 191 laps, Bob “Woody” Hazelwood was in 3rd place, two laps up on him and just one lap behind Ray Lee at 194 while Dave Panich was leading with 195. Further back in the field Tom Smith’s 175 laps put him in the middle of the “Battle of the Richards” with Richard Payne at 180 laps while Rich Girvin had logged 174 laps.
Significant first half action included a nudge by Dave Panich that sent Rich G’s car into the wall on the banking resulting in a broken guide flag. Rather than taking a DNF or the time to replace it, Rich continued with a loner car from Dave (which gave him a great opportunity to get even but to his credit, he didn't).
For the second week in a row Dave saw his first-half lead evaporate as some bad driving and bad luck allowed Ray to take the win by two laps. Woody hung on to take 3rd as Peter couldn’t close the gap. Richard P added 4 laps to his first-half total to take 5th while Rich G added 13 laps to his, closing the "Richard-gap" to 3 laps and blowing by Tom in the process to take 6th.
Ray’s 3.507 on yellow was the fastest lap of the evening with Dave just 1/1000th behind. Woody and Peter tied for 3rd fastest with identical 3.569 laps.
