Many years ago I built an Accurate Miniatures Corvette Grand Sport. I was never happy with the way the chassis handled. As a result the slot car languished on a shelf as the white painted body yellowed. A few months ago, Electron Raceway established a class that was suitable for the Grand Sport.
The following modifications were made
  • New, longer guide tongue was installed
  • Body, which had been raised using styrene was lowered to stock height
  • Paint stripped and body repainted
  • Front axle hanger lowered to accommodate smaller wheels
  • Front axle hanger braced for added strength
  • Motor bracket lowered to accommodate smaller wheels
  • Brass front pan fabricated and installed.
The modified chassis is a simple rattle design, has been tested and should be competitive in the class. Below are a few images of the finished product.

Ron had a look at the Grand Sport early on in the build process and decided to put together his own version. Ron opted for an OSCAR hinged chassis with O-ring front wheels. Note that the hood treatment is different than my Grand Sport. Early Grand Sports such as the ones raced at Nassau in 1963 were equipped with the hood shown on Rons car. Early on, engine overheating was a problem. One solution was to modify the hood to facilitate better airflow. Below are a few images of his great work.
