I'm posting this separately so as not to clutter up the race report with personal stuff. On Saturday, I had the worst Vertigo outbreak that I've had since the big one that started it. I drove down on Saturday morning as normal and although they were closed that day, Jen came around to let me in. I had felt a little "off" during the drive but it was a cruddy drive and I had skipped breakfast so I just wrote it off to that. When I got there, I started having Vertigo symptoms, dizzy, weakness, nausea etc. They were gradual at first but then the thing hit me hard. By about 1:00 I felt like I should lie down so I rolled out my comfortable bedroll and lay down for a few minutes. Basically, I slept off and on for the next 17-18 hours.

This AM I felt a little better but I was not up to driving a slot car so I waited until some of the guys showed up and I left for home. Drive was not bad but was tired when I got home. I took a short nap and that helped. I can feel it's getting better. Going to see my Doc. on Tuesday but doubt there's much that he can do. I think I'm going to try a few natural treatments and see if I get anywhere.

Thanks to all the messages and texts.........

Jim, I guess in one way I'm sorry I wasn't there to be supportive, but I am more concerned that you get to the bottom of this and get back to normal.  So I will try to check in more often,  we all miss having you visit regularly.

That's scary, Jim. Take it easy and hopefully they'll figure it out. Modern medicine is unbelievable.

Jim, I also suffer from time to time with vertigo.

When it hits, and I lie down, laying on one side versus the other can make a difference in intensity.  I also get an eye movement called Nystagmus   along with it.  The direction in which it twitches  helps determine which ear is having the problem.

When you are lying down and it feels like the world is spinning out of control, keep a radio on low volume. when your eyes are closed it helps give you a spacial reference point.

Lastly learn the "Epley Maneuver". there are several videos on you tube  https://www.youtube....h?v=jBzID5nVQjk

I hope something here helps you.

Dave

Thanks guys........FWIW I feel completely fine and symptom free today.

Dave C.......missed having you there even if I didn't stay. Hoping that retro doesn't fold completely at Motown.

Dave B.......I have tried the Epley and didn't do anything for me. OTH, I'm not sure that I did it right. Will try it again

Jim, have a doctor do the procedure. I have had vertigo off and on for 20 years. I take Meclazine (sp) when it gets bad. It is avaiable over the counter.

Hey John, do you take a daily dose as prevention or only during an occurrence?

Thanks

I take it only during episodes, or before being on a plane or small boat.

Jim, I'm sorry your having this problem! I just read a little about vertigo. Do you think yours is age related?

Not directly although I certainly qualify on that count. This is an inner ear thing called BPPV which is "Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo" It can and does happen at almost any age although is rather more prevalent with advanced years. It can also be triggered by a blow to the head (and sometimes not even all that severe). As bad as this was on Saturday (really bad!) and Sunday too to a lesser extent, I feel 100% great today. It just changes that fast.

That's good news, Jim. I don't have any excuse other than I have just been over-committed lately. I do think that maybe a two-race day, one on each track, might be an option, but that's just me talking. We (retro guys) are competing in the Fall, to some extent, with NASCAR, NFL and everything else.

I have been trying to spend more time on my 1/1 cars too, and there just isn't enough time in the day.  But feel better, regardless, and we can see where it all leads.

Jim, I take it when it occurs. I don't think it is age related. I had it when I was in  my 40"s.
