Can-Am on the King – 10/29/19

The King 03 small.jpg

After a couple of inadvertent Can-Am races on the King (which were originally scheduled on the Sovereign but with too few racers to have adequate marshals) this week’s race was actually on the schedule. Racing was in the 4/4 format with only one marshal (again) and one of the drivers in charge of the track call button.

Bob “Woody” Hazelwood jumped out to an early lead and by the mid-point of the race held a 5-lap lead over Richard Payne. At 138 laps Rich Girven was in a tight race for 3rd with Tom Smith who was trailing by just one lap. Wayne Secore closed out the field another 6 laps back.

In the second half Woody stretched his lead over Richard P to take the win by 14 laps. Tom managed to get past Rich G to take 3rd place by a 4-lap margin while Wayne trailed Rich by 8 laps.

Woody cruised to fast-lap honors with a 4.609, 2/10ths better than the next fastest racer.

Final Standings, laps completed, fast-lap time and lane:

  1. Bob Hazelwood        296         4.609      OR
  2. Richard Payne         282         4.890      GN
