Stock Cars on the Aristocrat – 12/3/19
Retro Stock Cars headed to the American Aristocrat this week at MVH. The field of 6 raced in the 3/4 format with 3 marshals.
Stock Cars in Tech:
The evening started off on the wrong foot for Dave Panich as he brought three Can-Am cars and zero Stock Cars. Peter Lentros generously loaned Dave a car so he could compete.
When the racing started John Weaver jumped out to an early lead as Peter, Dave and Bob “Woody” Hazelwood tried to keep up. By the change to the inside lanes, Weaver had logged 129 laps and held a 3-lap lead over Dave while Woody and Peter were tied for 3rd with 124 laps each. Richard Payne and Wayne Secore were in a bit of a race at the back of the field with Richard at 116 laps to Wayne’s 113.
When the second heat on the inside lanes began Dave’s car was a non-starter giving Woody and Peter a shot at moving up. When Dave checked to see if he had hooked his controller up incorrectly Richard pointed out he hadn’t hooked it up at all! An easy fix and pretty funny…
When time ran out Woody had put some distance between himself and Peter to claim 3rd but was still a couple of laps behind Dave who was able to hold on to 2nd place in spite of his various brain-lapses. Weaver cruised to the win with an eight-lap cushion while Richard opened up a considerable lead over Wayne to comfortably take 5th.
Weaver posted the fastest lap of the night with a 4.909 on purple while Dave was the only other driver to break the 5-second barrier.
Finishing order, laps completed, best-lap time and best-lap lane:
1) John Weaver 269/15 4.909 PU
2) Dave Panich 261/3 4.958 PU
3) Woody Hazelwood 259/1 5.163 PU
4) Peter Lentros 256/16 5.153 YL
5) Richard Payne 242/6 5.328 PU
6) Wayne Secore 228/4 5.804 BK
