In order to participate in a race, I decided to build a wooden car at 1/24.

The plastic chassis is imposed in the regulations, but later I will make a metal chassis.

These are 'barquettes', special streamliners based on Renault 4CVs. On the left is the famous Bosvin-Michel Special, built by Camille Bosvin and driven by Guy Michel in various races in the' 50s, including the Bol d'Or 1950-53, the Mille Miglia 53-55, Le Mans in 1954, the 12 Hours at Rheims '53-54, Targa

Florio '55. and many others.

Renault 4CV, it's a small car with a displacement of 747 cm3.

Interesting louver punching tool. It's a wonder you can keep the punch aligned with the die, but it obviously works beautifully.

Thank for your comments.

The bodywork is soon completed, the headlights, lights and long ranges remain to be achieved.

The new hood with its louvers oriented in the right direction.

Here, the adventures are over, she is ready for the race, I will try not to break the car.

It will remain to redo a chassis, as well as wheels.

Hello everyone and thank you for your comments.

It is thanks to Jairus that I like to build slot cars in wood and metal, I now have 9.

To answer Ernie, I don't know my new project, maybe a car with a Hispanic suiza aircraft engine.

I finally replaced the ugly little plastic chassis with a nice brass one made from elements from the Kemtron brand.

Really impressed with your builds Regis. Love to see what you do next.

If you have time can you post pics of the tooling you used to make such nice sharp louvers?

I assume there was a negative base you were pushing them into?

It looks like you are using a drill press to push the die into. How do you keep that from rotating from position?

Thanks for sharing your projects.

Fantastic project !!
A tip - if you treat the "wire wheels" by adding diluted matt black paint between the spokes and when dry highlighting the spokes with silver/alu paint they will look much more "real" :-)

Thank you for your feedback

Martin, the drill chuck does not turn during work, probably because of the belt which is tight.

There is no negative base under the aluminum sheet, I don't remember, but I think it's a soft wood board.

It's stupid, because I wanted to do the same thing for another car, I tried lots of different ways, but it didn't work as well.

http://slotblog.net/...1-the-blue-car/

I found my little tool that was used to make the louvers for the car hood.

The aluminum foil used is very thin (0.2 mm) and the edge of the tool is sharp.

The tool is mounted in the chuck of a drill press, but it does not rotate, there is just an up and down motion.

It takes testing, testing, and testing, but it works.

It’s true Niels, I didn’t take care of the inserts, I’ll follow your advice.

Thanks Regis for going into more detail of the louver process. .008" of an inch aluminum must be fun to work with.

They are so crisp, I am amazed. Well done.

Looking at your pics, I see you made a steering wheel too. For your "blue car" post 22.

I love doing this kind of detail as well. Here is the first one I have ever made, I was pleased with the result.

He's perfect Martin, keep it up.

It’s a great personal satisfaction to race with cars whose chassis and details have been scratch-made.
