The opening day of the 2020 Checkpoint Cup saw the usual packed house with 2 Flat track races and Retro Pro on schedule and many racers practicing on the King track. First up was Retro Coupe on the Flat track with 28 entrants.

28 Anglewinder Coupe cars ready for qualifying
Newcomer to the Checkpoint and Retro Racing, Chance Overholt qualifying. Chance won the Thursday night flexi race on the Flat track, always held before the Checkpoint. Congrats Chance!
Coupe qualifying Rick Dodge with a blistering 4.23 to take TQ followed by Herman James and Mill Conroy. Bryan Warmack just nips Chance by .01 for the last A Main spot! Great run by Joe Chevy to secure an A Main spot with a car that by Joes' admission was "faster than he was!"

Retro Coupe results From the opening bell it looked like the Rick and Herman show and as the race progressed they slowly pulled away! A super race that had Rick just ahead at the end after awesome drives by both him and Herman! Dale came home 3rd for the last podium spot ahead of Bryan and Don. Great run by Don Haase to come from the C Main and battle for the podium! Fastest lap to Herman James at 4.22
