The 2020 Checkpoint Cup is in the books and a little wrap is in order here along with a few words of thanks to all the people who helped make it a very special weekend......

First of all some thanks to all the sponsors of the race who donated race prizes........JK Products,  Edge Bodies,  Samson Classics,  the SCRRA,  Warmack Racing Products,  Hi Tech,  Team IRD and Mill Conroy.  THANKS!!  :good:

2 great Flat track races began the weekend with a very close battle in Retro Coupe that had Rick Dodge just edge Herman James.  In F1 on the Flat track, a barnburner that went down to the last seconds had Gary Donahoe just nipping Bryan Warmack and Rick and Gary both added their name to the Cup as Checkpoint winners!  Congrats!  :victory:

The Retro Pro race had Alex Freund over James Grinstead and Dennis Samson and considering that at the last major race the event wasn't even held, a turnout of 18 racers for the Checkpoint was fantastic!  :good:

Congrats to Duran Trujillo for an awesome Can Am run that had him breaking his lap record total with a new record of 359!  Duran also ran to victory in F1 to boot!  Congrats Duran!  :victory:

Great weekend by Mill Conroy with a 3rd in F1 Flat track and solid runs to 2nd in both Can Am and F1!

Great run by Don Haase to come from the C Main in Retro Coupe and battle for a podium spot in the A Main!

Solid weekend by newcomer and out of towner Chance Overholt who ran well in all classes and won the Thursday night Flexi race!

Congrats Bob Ricca on some great looking cars that are getting faster all the time!

Super effort by Tore Anderson to qualify for the A Main with a car he had never driven and run to a solid finish in F1!

Watch out for Joe Chevys' new Coupe car!......

Congrats to all the podium finishers and thanks to all the racers who came from near and far and who always make the Checkpoint the special event that it is!

Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way.  Mill Conroy, Sam Rackham, Dennis Samson, Bill Vanderziel, Alex Freund,

Earl McCutcheon,  Vic Dubrowsky and anyone else who helped out!

Thanks once again to Nesta Szabo and Kathy Mitome for providing a great poster for the event!

Thanks again to Buena Park Raceway and to Eddie Howard for all the time he spends with the thankless chore of track prep over the 3 day weekend. Thanks Eddie!

And finally on a serious note here, we would all like to extend our thoughts and prayers to Debby Watterson, Craig Correia, and Jay Henry, who are all having some serious health issues at the moment....

See you next year!  :)

Bryan, It must be said again; without your really running the SCRRA program, we wouldn't be doing these races. Your tireless effort is appreciated.

I had a blast and felt honored to meet some of the patriarchs of Retro racing and slot cars in general. I’m already counting down the days to next year’s Checkpoint!
