So a 30ish guy walks in with his girlfriend, and asks if I do rentals.
I said sure, and tell him the rates, and take him to the King.
I set the power at a medium level, and told him I'll show him where where he can adjust it, when he wants more or less.
As soon as he asked if he could punch the bank, I knew something was up.
He was immediately braking in the right spots, so I walked him to the race directors stand, and showed him what to do.
At some point he let his girlfriend try, and was coaching her, sounding almost exactly as I would, a new racer.
Anyway, after awhile, I jumped on his lane, to set times for him to shoot for.
He would come very close, eventually matching them.
When I assured him he was very good, he mentioned about occasionally running on a friends (dusty) digital set.
He stayed for almost an hour and half, and near the end, he then also volunteered his dad took him racing as a teenager.
When I asked where, he said he grew up in the Cleveland area, and that they would go to the Slot Shop.
When I mentioned Mrs. Hubbell, and that he still makes appearances at slot car events, his eyes lit up.
Bottom line, it was nice to not have to explain to a rental driver, to let off the trigger all the way, and take advantage of his dynamic brakes. LOL
