ONO Speedway

820 Cabell St.

London, Ontario, Canada

We are a group of dedicated individuals who love to race slot cars. We run on the King track which is 140 feet long .

We race 1/24 Group 10 and Group 12 cars every Thursday night.

Come on out and have a blast. Each race is only $8 for beginners, $12 for experienced racers. The more the merrier.

Test and Tune starts at 7 PM and the race begins at 8 PM after all cars are teched.

Race stamped steel chassis, Lexan bodies. Lots of fun, easygoing atmosphere. Club track, not for profit. Stocked with cars and parts. Stop in, try it out.

Looks like a Gerding King. Any history on the track?

As far as I know,

It is an Olgilvie King built for a Parma Challenge cup race in Hamilton, Ontario, back in '89?

It was then set up at a commercial facility in '91 (where I worked for over a year) and then did a tour at a local flea market.

It was purchased by a local racer who owned a warehouse which had a small three-lane club track. The club was expanded to to accommodate the king and it has pretty much been there for the last 18 years. I was told it did live at another location for a year or so a while ago but is back home where it belongs.

I helped with the building of the club initially and helped expand the room for the kKng but got out of slot racing shortly after.

I am just now getting back into the hobby.

Prices have gone up a bit to $15 dollars per entry

We still race on Thursday nights.

We race flexi GTP with 16D motors similar. OCC Group 10 with GTP bodies

There is no once a month series yet but we are working on it.

This was one of the tracks that was built for use in the Parma Challenge Cup series both in Canada and the US. We kept it about four years. It was set up in a Hamilton downtown hotel for one of the Canadian races. I believe it was used once in the Cleveland area for the big Challenge Cup event that Parma used to hold. We brought a track to that event yearly for I think about eight years in a row.

The first place it was set up was in the exhibit area at a Molson Indy car race in Toronto. The Toronto Sun newspaper paid us to be there. We sold it to a raceway in London and eventually it ended up in its present location at ONO Raceway..

After this track was sold we built a full-size King that we used for Challenge Cup races and for use at USRA Nats races as a secondary track. It was also rented out for promotional events and was also set up at the Molson Indy, this time sponsored by Sunoco.

Over the years we always had a raceway in our shop and sometimes we would take that track to events as well. One year we had a Hillclimb that was our raceway track at the Toronto Auto Show, sponsored by the RCMP Racing Against Drugs program.

Thanks, Steve. I appreciate you giving the history of the track. We are in the middle of rebraiding it to being it back to near new racing conditions.

Oh wow! Right in my home town of London where I was born, raised and lived the first 25 years of my life! It's also almost in the dead center of London and only 3.35 miles (a casual hour long walk) from my sister's house. I typically continue to visit my sister in London three or four times per year but I've not visited since this COVID thing broke out so I'm way overdue.

Is your facility still open to the public on weekends? Any plans to establish a hard body class?

:)

:)

We are typically only open on Thursday nights with the exception of when we have an Ontario Flexi Series race, then we are open on the weekend.

We will not be running hardbody cars on this track.
