I’m new to the 1/24 older cars and really would really appreciate help with answering the below questions. I purchased these on eBay and they were listed “for parts.” I got lucky. All three cars run really well. Good structural condition. I purchased these for my home track.

Please help me identify (if possible) what type of cars these might be.  There are no markings on any of these cars.

Car 1: Motor is on a slight angle. Tires are orange and are 1-1/2” across.

Body had the clear wings on three sides that rose above body.

Nothing else that seems to jump out at me as far as a further specification.

Picture 2.jpg

Car 2: There are two of these cars and are exact duplicates of each other.

Just in front of the motors there is a hole with a clip coming up through the hole.

This allows the front section of the car to pivot right and left, independent of the motor and rear axle.

One car had orange tires, the other had tan tires.

Motors are set at a more severe angle than car #1.

Please answer the below general questions. I really need this help.

  1.  How do you measure tire size? I’ve looked around trying to buy tires. The measurements seem to vary depending which site I’m on. How do you differentiate, when buying, hard soft or sponge? The orange tires I have use a set screw built into the rims.
  2. Could anyone suggest a few sites where I can do parts shopping for these cars? Tires, brushes, motors etc. for 1/24 cars.

Thanks for your help,

The first one is a Parma BrassKar with a Mura motor. The second one is a Parma Flexi 1, with a Parma 16D motor.

Both should take 13/16" or 7/8" diameter tires.

Tires are specified by axle size first and tire diameter second. 1/8" x 13/16" or 1/8" x .820" would be the correct size for all of the cars listed.

Both of the models you have were quite popular in the '80s and '90s as both racing and just play cars.

PCH (e-slotcar.com) is a good source as well as Electric Dreams who is also a sponsor of this site. Orange tires are pretty much not available any more as black tires have taken over the modern market. Black tires do come in a variety of firmness and grip levels and it depends on where and how you are going to use your cars. Natural rubber is probably what you are going to want and it comes in soft only. Wonder rubber comes in different firmness ratings that you can choose from, but it is used mainly for racing on banked speedway type tracks. It is very long wearing, but not as much grip as the natural rubber.

You are also going to have a choice of many bodies from the same websites as mentioned above, mostly clear bodies but there may be some prepainted bodies available also.

Welcome to Slotblog and have fun with your cars!

Gentlemen,

Thank you both for your responses. I really appreciate it.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for suppliers of 1/24 parts?

Thanks,

Frank

If you don't have a commercial raceway near you, try to find one that also does mail order. At least you'll help keep a raceway open, especially critical these days

Number 1, your closest/local commercial raceway, or mail order from the ones suggested above and/or Professor Motor has a good selection, too.

An inexpensive digital caliper is invaluable for measuring things such as tire diameter.

I like mail ordering from www.slotcarstore.net, they have a great selection, most everything is in stock and they ship quickly.

Thank you for the input.

I would really like to patronize the local slot car tracks but sadly the closest tracks are located in Chicago - 200 miles away.

I had sent an E-mail to one located in Downers Grove asking for help on parts and advice and asking for help as far as purchasing additional cars.

I didn't receive a response - Haven't had time to contact any additional shops but I will.

*** Grand Champion Poster -  I have the caliper but how do I go about measuring the tires????????? What and how do I go about getting the actual measurements???  If per chance Grand Champion doesn't see this, can anyone else provide that information?

I'll take the advice offered above as far as contacting different vendors. I'll especially try the sponsors of Slotblog first. Any other suggestions as far as suppliers of parts and cars??

Thanks to all

Grand Champion Poster is MG Brown ( the name just above Grand Champion Poster ).

As for measuring tires open the caliper less than the diameter of the tire. Holding the caliper flat place a tire between the forks of the caliper so that the rolling tire surface is contacting the caliper forks. Slowly open the caliper and stop when the tire falls through. Good idea to catch it with the other hand. that will give you the tire diameter. any other measurements are obvious.

You must have an OLD track list.  Check the current Slotblog track directory for more current information.

http://slotblog.net/forum/96-michigan/    and check Indiana and Illinois for closer tracks.

Frank,
There used to be 2 raceways in Downers Grove, about 6 years ago.

While I live in DG, my raceway, Chicagoland Raceway has been in adjacent Westmont, for the last 6 years.

The other is now in nearby Naperville.

I don't remember your email, but let's move on to solving your problem.

As mentioned, you most likely want 13/16" or 7/8".

Your cars are both 1/8" axle.

You can measure your tires as Eddie mentioned in post #10.

Regardless of what they measure now, you'll want at least 1/16" ground clearance, from the lowest point of the car.

That said, .057", or something similar, is also fine.

If you think the cars are going to get a ton of use, want them to last longer, and aren't concerned with ultimate performance, go with something larger, that will give you .070"-.100" ground clearance.

That most likely will be the chassis bottom surface, but there is a possibility it will be the spur gear.

If the spur does hang below the chassis surface, just measure it's diameter, and add .125" (1/16" x 2)

The most common replacement tires for those cars are JK8715PP, JK8716PP, and JK8767PP.

They are .820"+, 840"+, & .875"+, and all 3 sizes retail for $11.95 pair.

I'll explain the + when I add a few pics to this post.

I have all 3 types in stock, and can ship tomorrow.

I also stock JK RTR cars (Parma no longer sells RTR's)

20200419_115352.jpg

As Eddie mentioned, lay the tires in the jaws of your calipers and slowly open them.

I've soldered a brass strip on to my left jaw, to help steady the tire and keep it square, which is more useful when measuring narrow front tires.

It helps, but is not needed for measuring rears.

20200419_115431.jpg

I managed to catch a pic as it was almost ready to drop through.

This shows that JK Products usually cuts the tires oversize, .015"-.020".

The tire shown is the JK8715PP, which is advertised as an .820" diameter tire.

FYI.....the Parma Brasskar will need a MINIMUM 7/8 rear tire. They were notorious for almost no clearance with only slightly worn tires. Unless I’m mistaken Parma actually made .900 dia tires just for their brasskar RTR.

That's what I thought I remembered as well. The BrassKar took bigger tires than the Flexi.

It's been a few minutes since I raced a BrassKar.

That very well could be with the Brasskar.

It came out before the Flexi.

Plus, it wouldn't be the first, or last time, a slot car product didn't come out as ideal as hoped.

If indeed, it needs a bigger tire, FWIW, on the 4 pair of .875" JK's I have in stock, 2 pair measure approx. .890", and 1 pair measure .900"+.

BTW, that square tube, bite bar upstop, on the Brasskar, is what inspired me on the first floating mount systems for the first lightweight perimeter chassis.
