I was having a conversion with a couple of acquaintances in regards to race livery color schemes.

They prefer bright and bold colors for their slot cars.

For myself, I appreciate the bright/bold colors, but always wanted to do a "Battleship Gray" color car.

I told them about it, but their comments were not that supportive for the "race car look" - LOL!

Trying to figure out how to make it look racy was another challenge.

I haven't had the opportunity to set up my paint station yet, because I'm still working on chassis/s with tools splayed all over my work table.

Using aerosol cans is another challenge since it is not easy to control fluid dispersement like you can with spray equipment.

So here is my humble attempt at a Battleship Gray paint theme using spray cans.

Thank you for looking.

If you are racing and you can see it, all the rest is personal preference. If you are worried about the opinions of others you might consider trading slot cars for golf clubs.

One Caveat. Don't pick a color scheme that confuses turn marshals.

Hi Mike,

I appreciate your perspective.

I don't run any sanctioned races and I'm not concerned about opinions - just wanting to share.

Thank you.

Looks very nice Ernie.

I like the Gray because of the flexibility it gives you for accent colors, just about any other color would work well with it.

One Caveat. Don't pick a color scheme that confuses turn marshals. Mike, I remember the first time I raced with Ron Hersman and Randy Marshall, I was marshaling for Randy's heat and his car was White with different colored dots all over the car. I went to his pit after the race and told him his missed 1 lane color on his car. He told me to get ________. LOL  we became good friends attending many R-4's.  RIP Randy.

Ernie,

Nice color scheme. I betcha that car does better than '30 knots'! Did you set it up for a track with wavy swells as well?  :D

My wife served 20 years in the Navy. She mentioned that since you are doing Battleship Gray, go full on USN. White text on a gray field and a couple of anchors on the front!

Great job!

Good one Scott!  LOL

Please convey to your wife, from me,  "Thank you for your service - it is appreciated!"

My late Father, Father-in-law, a few Uncles and Grandfather, all served in the Navy too!

Thank you for sharing Scott!

I hope you dont race/play on a gray surfaced track. Very nice job. I always want to paint a stock car in primer gray because no one else uses that color. I also like black but that doesnt go well on black surfaces...

in the late 60s when the city of Parma had no black residents, Dan blood worth got in a shouting match with a lone young black racer shouting put the car in RED over and over...Dan shouted we don't have no grey lane hear!...the race was in nearby brooklyn raceway

Shiggy,

I have been playing with the stealth look

I really like the color combo of the  'Vette and Charger".

If you and I were to get our "Battleship Gray" colored cars together, perhaps no one would know we were running on the track?!

Probably because the cars are so inconspicuous!  LOL!

Thank you.

JB at Downriver had an m&ms 4.5 inch stock car body that confused the heck out of the marshals on the oval track. You'd have thought he would have learned his lesson after his Wonder Bread body.

I had a few comments about not seeing me coming.
These were for a 2-car, 2-hour enduro. I won, mostly because I had no mechanical or crash problems

Mike brings up some things here: I once, without thinking, painted at car with various color polka dots.... and I used the lane stickers as the mask. That was a very painful lesson. Do not do that!

Mike, Mike Brannian, John Geddes and I had an **UGLY** paint job contest. Our theory was that the ugliest bodies always seemed to sell out of the counter very quickly. The winner was going to be the painter of the body that 1st sold at Circle-T.  We gave the owners of C-T the bodies to put into the counter (the Aspenson's were very confused at what we were trying to do and why)... I am proud to say that I won, in that the body never made it into the counter an had several racers arguing over purchasing it. It was a very hideous, ugly, grossly applied paint job... on purpose.

Good times at the Sonic Isis Avenue shop that night.......

Hi Phil,

Mike, Mike Brannian, John Geddes and I had an **UGLY** paint job contest.

That's sort of inline with the "ugly sweater" contest - LOL!

Thanks for sharing that great story!

I guess there is more than one gray body in this topic.  I was referring to the first one.

That is not a legal body for LMP where I race. No step spoiler.
