Since I value my customers opinion, do you care on which side my three knobs are located? I can locate my traction rheostat on either side of my controller with my new extended wiper board. What is your preference and why?
Thanks for playing!

I'm right handed, so I prefer the knobs on the left side of the controller.
Me too neither, mmm.
Anything you have to adjust while driving needs to be done on that same side.

I'm right handed--so knobs on the LEFT side are accessible for me when I'm driving. I believe perhaps 90% of drivers are right handed? Should be a no brainer.

The majority of folks are right handed, but I know a few lefties as well...
As a value added product, for a fee, is it possible to offer a fully customized unit as a special order?
If you are wave soldering during production, I can see an issue there. However, if each is manually assembled, perhaps offer that service as an an upgrade option against the standard models.

My right hand is already occupied trying to keep my car on the track so my left hand needs something to do. Definitely left side...

As I'm a Leftie, I would like to have all the buttons on the right side.

I think left side knobs should be standard and right hand knobs an option.
And I imagine this was your plan all along.

The maximum setting should always be in the same direction - ie fully on when the knob is turned clockwise - not a mixture

I'm left handed but drive slots right handed and so far have not purchased a Di Falco. Nice controllers though.

Well that was a slam dunk as far as your preferences! Which is pretty much the reason why I extended my circuit board. The traction rheostat was put on the other side so it would fit on the older PCB but it would could also not be confused with the brake when driving.
I added a little distance between the brake and traction rheostat in the new layout. The traction knob is also a totally different type so you can tell by feel which knob is which.
Scott, no wave soldering is done on the wiper board. I have made lefty versions for racers in the past. Generally I do have a small charge for this as it is more work. I probably have not done a good job making this service known.
Zippity, my sensitivity and traction rheostats are at maximum fast response when rotated forward. My brake is maximum off when rotated forward as well. I guess you like your brake full on rotated forward?
Hackett, 3rd Eye had them on top and changed to the side location. His type rheostats would make it easy to put out the top now. My rheostats make it an awkward design to point out the top.

Jim,
I like all my pots to be at maximum/positive when they are ALL turned the same way - like Carsteens
Posted 10 May 2020 - 04:43 PM
yeah, my max brake is CW like the sensitivity as well. up = more.
but if it has wires from the board up to the pots, that makes it pretty easy to swap things around any way that you want.

Surely it is up to the manufacturer to set it up correctly to begin with?
Or install the correct parts at the beginning

I have a 281. And really like it. I like the adjustment knob layout. Having the traction control on the back lets me change the brake blindly as I am racing.

Ron, correct parts? Set it up correctly? Geez. A bit hyper critical don't you think? They are the correct parts.
I posted this topic because I wanted to hear from my customers about my controllers. It is called market research. Nothing different than what most companies do in any field of business. I doubt knob direction is the most critical factor in a racer choosing his controller. I doubt I lost one sale because of it.
I have had racers say either way was fine with them. Tony P. didn't mind the front location because he thought it would keep him from accidentally adjusting the wrong knob. Nobody can make everyone happy, and I am ok with that.

I like the layout you have been using for years Jim. As far as the traction control front or back adjust would work just fine with about two minutes of practice, but I think I would take the TC adjust on the wiper side and the other two on the back if given the choice.
One question, on your new controllers without the TC what board are you going to use?
As for the direction of adjustment I just set both pots to full CW and start running. If i need to adjust it is pretty obvious that I turn one of then CCW. I don't have Traction control yet.
