This car was a now-closed eBay listing that's interesting enough to save over to this forum, along with the pics. It brought $509.99, with 24 bids!

"1960s 1/24 hard plastic slot car with four wheel suspension and steerable front wheels. I inherited this car, and others, a few years ago from a friend that passed away. It does not appear to have seen any track time. I bench tested the motor and it runs fine, but could use some oiling. The rear tires are cracked. The cockpit has a dash with four instruments. There's spring suspension at the four corners, and a front end that turns. The knock offs for the front wheels are on the inside. I guess he ran out of spacers."

Wow. Somebody must want this car really badly or...

Not really knowledgeable on vintage stuff, but isn't this commercial Ulrich suspension units combined with an MPC Dyn-O-Can using rather poor soldering? Are the Ulrich pieces particularly rare? Pefectly suited to the Vanwall body, I admit and perhaps the body itself is part of the appeal?

Educate a dumb flexi racer, will ya?

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Ah, Greg asked me this in a PM and didn't see right away that it had been posted here... must have clicked on the eBay link!

Here's part of what I said to him:

A complete Ulrich suspension chassis already goes for something like $200 in general, and since this one seems to be well made, and adapted to a Dyn-O-Charger no less, plus a nice Merit body... But it's mostly two guys who've been bidding like crazy against each other. And now probably an unknown will come in at the end and grab it!

I would have thought that the modifications for a different motor would lower the value, but I guess not.

Yes, it's true the soldering is not all that great, but for me that's a minor point; it's more the combination of parts and the overall look of the car, since this period car, a '50s Vanwall, goes well with the old Rube Goldberg chassis. I was going to bid, but no, not over $400!
