Does anyone have any experience with the WEN 4208 drill press? I have one on its way and wondered if anyone has any set-up or use tips or warnings. Will be only for use in chassis building- don’t plan to use it outside the hobby.

Hi Mike,

I got my WEN 4208 a few weeks ago, and only recently got it up and running, having used it for about a week now.

I did a couple of mods to accommodate my compound cross slide vise, and also added an LED work light.

I like it - it's very sturdy and much quieter than my 30 year old + variable drill press.

The only advice I can offer, would be to check the spindle speed to see if it drills through the material appropriately for you.

The factory spindle speed setup may or may not be to your preference.

Hope this helps.

The work light is a great idea. What kind of bench/table are you using? Bolted or clamped down? Can’t wait for mine to arrive. It will probably be a while for me to get mine set up, too as I have to put up a 6x8 greenhouse kit for my wife. Thanks for the help.

Hi Mike,

Glad to be of assistance.

I'm using a folding portable 6" work table and it isn't bolted down - it just rests to one side of the work table and out of the way for me to have room for fabrication.

It is heavy enough not to slip and slide on the table, but have it resting on a wood shelf board, because the plastic material of the table bows quite a bit without the support.

Here are a few pix to show you how I attached my LED worklight.

Basically, I disassembled an LED desk light and made a small angle bracket,  and used a hose clamp to attach it to the drill press column.

Works very well!
