Buyer beware. Check the auction and picture details below of original cars.

https://www.ebay.com...b8AAOSwZwdfBcIw

This is the original I had many years ago. Notice the shape of the hat and the silver paint on the grille and motor.

INTERNATIONAL TIJUANA TAXI.jpg

Here's the pic of another original showing the unique frame. It is slightly wider than the carded frame and the slots under the motor box are different than  the carded frame. It fits the Taxi body tightly, the carded frame does not fit correctly. As far as I know the correct chassis was only found under Taxis and Pirahnas.

The original has a body mount wire clip, the one for sale has screws that are located higher up.

The body doesn't look original especially in the front end and the body trim work doesn't look factory.

good luck

What a bad fake this is on e-bay.

I read the add, he does not say it is an original, BUT it does suggest that it is.

Do you think e-bay should be made aware?

The add should say "Recreation" or Fake or..........?

Somebody new to the hobby could get get stung here.

Very Clean for a 55 years old slot car, see pictures

This is a clear misrepresentation.

Unless someone faked it in 1965. That's not going to happen.

I LIKE THESE CARS.

Could be that the seller doesn't  know it's a repro.   That doesn't mean he will accept the info that is a repro.

What I know about the bodies is that Speed and Sport may have had an original mold (maybe 1 of 1).   They could have also back poured an original body and made bodies 1 generation removed from the original.    They did offer this body in the 80's or 90's.   I got 2 back then.    I know Scott Mac has a mold, but I don't know it's origins.    It may have come from Dallas Boothe, may have come from Speed and Sport or  he may have made it.   I may have gotten some Taxi bodies from him, I don't remember.   I don't know that we ever discussed where his mold originated.    His website is still up, but I don't think he is making bodies anymore.

In the 90's I sent the extra body I got from S&S to Bruce Patterson and he made some bodies for me that were his usual over pour and then a buck/mold made from that.   Of course those bodies lost 30% or more of the detail by copying the outside shape and not the inside.   Those were the bodies I  used when I made the copies I sold back in the early 90's..   If I remember right I made about 8-10 and gave 2-3 to different guys that provided parts or work on that project.   They were all on the non-original frame and were mounted with pins and tubes.  The driver and the stickers were copied straight from my original.   Daniel painted all the bodies the same as my original..    I sold the copies at Chicago when that show was at the old armory, before internet.   I made  sure guys knew they were copies.   I liked making them, as that car, as basic as it is, is my favorite all time slot car.

This is a completely reproduction  car and box.   Scott had the actual mold for the bubble and was able to make a couple before quitting or breaking his mold.

This is an original and the only boxed Taxi I have seen besides the MIB example Philippe had.   I tried to buy this one but never had any luck.

the prices of the old slots are crazy. now people make up these fake cars to make big money. the money that some guy makes up a old monogram midget and tries to get 399. for a crappy built car that never was a real slot car

To be honest, I just like certain cars and if I can do some kind of re-creation, I am happy with that.    I don't care that it isn't some priceless relic from the dark ages!!!     I think  those priceless relics will be worth about $50 in 10-20 years.   I can copy a car that I like and am just as happy when I look at it and if I want to run it, it's no big deal.    I am happy if a car is just a reasonable copy and don't mind  admitting it.   I do sell a lot of stuff, but always make clear if something is a copy.

With resin casting and vac-forming as good as it today.  Faking a car is not too hard for a talented modeler.   That's a problem we didn't have back in the 80's and early 90's.

This seller ended the auction for the Taxi.

This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available

Now is this real?

Martin, I couldn't find anything that shouts repro on the Black Beauty.   I always thought they were made with the original Manta Ray style BZ chassis, but Philippe has said they actually used both types of chassis.   The body seems to be correctly painted to me and certainly it doesn't look fresh.     I think it may be real, $2000 may be $1500 over priced, but Gene makes a great body and you can build a very nice clone for under $100.

You can even find a repro box for your repro car!  This is a repro.    Notice painted vent posts, which proves it is a repro.    Not trying to fool anybody.

I think the BB was real, it had painted screws, but the body looked like an original, as far as you could tell with the pictures, the chassis was OK, the rear tires looked too good for the condition of the body.  It may have been put together from assorted parts,  but they all looked like original BZ parts.   I think it is still listed.
