Well, I just Googled "Old School Brush Holders" and this picture came up

.

I also forgot to mention, it has to be for regular "C" can brushes if the 36D is not the same size. (I have never owned a 36D motor).

The 36D brushes of the 1960's are the same size as modern "C" size brushes.

Not a bad idea Johnny.

 

It is definitely simpler than the hinged wiper arm.
