Formula 1 on the King – 7/14/2020
This week at MVH seven racers showed up to try their luck on the Gerding King in the fourth Tuesday night retro race since the “restart”. The race was run in 4/4 format.
Cars in Tech:
Since changing to his new(er) “Crutchfield” chassis Richard Payne has been on tear in F-1 on the King, placing 2nd the last time out and winning the race before that, so the question was how would it play out tonight?
Ray Lee had the fastest car on the track and by the move to the inside lanes held a comfortable 3-lap lead over Richard with Woody giving chase 2 laps back. Peter Lentros was posting almost identical lap times to Woody but at mid-race found himself 8 laps off his pace and 3 laps ahead of 5th place Nate Bemis. Tom Smith and newcomer Dave Lombardi closed out the field.
Peter had the best 2nd half of the race, adding 4 laps to his 1st half total, but it wasn’t enough to reach to podium as he was forced to settle for 4th place by a 10-lap margin. At the front of the field, Richard was able to chase down Ray with both drivers completing 315 laps when time ran out. The difference came down to just three track sections with Richard taking the come-from-behind win. Woody claimed the bottom podium step, a long 4 laps behind the leaders. Further back, in another change from the first half of the race, Tom got around Nate to take 5th place.
Ray’s 4.281 lap on blue was the fastest lap of the evening.
