What a great day of racing we had in Cleveland at SERRA race #6!

There were 45 entries in the three classes, with 27 racers attending. Thunder Valley's reverse Kingleman is a great track, as smooth as anywhere we've raced, and with almost no "gotchas".

Thanks to all the racers who traveled long distances to run at this event: Butch Dunaway from OH, Don Weaver and Don Berni from SC, and Bobby Robinson and Steve Saunders from AL. There are probably some travelers I need to mention, and I will do so this evening when I have the sign-up sheets at hand.

Due to other committments, I was unable to get the pics and race results posted yesterday, and today, as usual, work is getting in the way of slot racing (I just hate that...). Getting the pics and results posted is near the top of today's after-work to-do list (slotted in right after dinner, of course).

Thanks to all who helped us have a great day of retro racing!

That third place should really be credited to Don Weaver of Greenwood, SC, who lent me one of the best-handling F1 cars I've ever driven. All I had to do was slap on the Mac-painted body I bought at the Sano last year and install a new set of rear tires and it was ballistic, as the lap time shows.

This is the same car Randall Durham drove at our SERRA race in Abbeville, SC, where he finished a lap behind the winner, Jay Guard.

If I could have driven it the way it deserved to be driven, it would have finished in first place without a doubt.

Thanks, Pablo. As you can see by the lap times I was nowhere near the fastest car but I had a good clean run. My body still looked new at the end of the race. Can't say the same for the Can-Am race, I stunk the place up in that one. As a matter of fact, I took out four other cars in one turn on the first lap.

I'd like to thank Bart Merriman (the owner of Thunder Road) for hosting a great race. The track is great, the establishment is great, and Bart is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Thanks, Bart

Yes, it was a great turnout for the SERRA races this past Saturday at Thunder Road Raceway in Cleveland, TN. Bart, Katrina, and his helpers were wonderful hosts. And I made some more new friends.

The webbing paint comes in spray cans with a special nozzle. Coverite used to sell it, the cans I now have are Krylon from a Sherwin-Williams paint store. It comes in a number of different colors.

I have no experience with the technique but I recall reading somewhere that spraying unthinned paint through an airbrush at a certain pressure will also produce the effect and was wondering if that's the way Chris did it.

I never tried it thru an airbrush but that is how we do it using full-size equipment. Spray unthinned and vary pressure to get the effect you like. One of my favorites thru an airbrush was the dots and starbursts. Today it is buzz bomb for me. Leave the painting to the pros like Noose, Jairus. etc...

As Bill said, use Krylon. It is easy to use, takes only a few seconds. Then follow with your regular color and you are done. I originally used Coverite, but I think they discontinued it.

I ordered it through the internet. Hobby Lobby carries the gold webbing paint only. You may get a hardware store to special order it for you.
