Without specific controller brand ID, the answer is a positive - maybe. The transistor controller design has used both PNP and NPN polarity.

Earl, what are you trying to accomplish with your question? Transistors have different amperage, wattage, polarity as well as different drive characteristics that will affect how they react.
Racers would occasionally throw in low amperage versions of my silver TO-3 transistors and then wonder why they would blow or overheat.
I currently use 2) TIP35-C transistors in my newest design, and leave the part numbers on them. The higher wattage and amperage, compared to my original silver transistor, has definitely improved my controllers reliability.

I had a SK smile and the red and black wire going to the Power Transistor , so I assume the Power Transistor shorted out and since the wires are thin they took the brunt , thanks Jim
SK USES THE SAME TRANSISTOR AS dIFALCO

Not sure if the SK transistor is THE SAME as mine but it does work as a replacement. Part DD830 @ $17

No, there most likely was a short on the track.
What symptoms does your controller have? Do you get any power on the wiper bands or just at full power?

Whatever fusing system he has may not have worked properly which is why the wires are burned. You are going to need to replace the wiring and probably the transistor
