2020-2021 INDIANA HOPRA RACING SCHEDULE

 

All races (except the Gobbler Endurance Challenge) will feature HOPRA Super Stock and INDIANA Brass Jet. Both classes' race format will be one-minute qualifying heats, four-minute mains. You can win from any main. 

Entry Fee: $7.00 Includes both races plus food/soft drinks ($5 to host, $2 to IN HOPRA for Nats contribution)

 

Everyone is welcome, just remember that masks (covering your nose and mouth at all times) is mandatory. Hand sanitizer will be available, but it is advised that you bring your own (and use it often). It should go without saying... if you don't feel good the morning of the race, please stay home for the good of everyone involved.

Race #1 Results

 

We had 10 racers converge on Tmac's spacious slot racing complex yesterday with everyone attired in their now standard COVID masks. The 2-hour practice session for both classes, SS on the Cobra and IN Brass Jet on the Riverside, was full of fast times, frantic thrashing and more than a few 'glad to be back racing' remarks.

 

After enjoying a delicious lunch featuring spaghetti and garlic bread quickly whipped up by Tmac's lovely wife and daughter, the racing action got underway. When the power turned off for the last time, the results were as follows:

It was a slim, but hearty group of racers for the second race of the season, held at Tmac's spacious slot racing complex. For this event, SS was held on the fast and furious Riverside road course bullring and IN Brass Jets (IBJ) raced on the bigger Cobra road course (due to time constraints, only Mains were raced for IBJ). Will try to snap some pics of the chassis at the next race. The chassis are typically a mix of BSRT G3R or RS, Viper V1 and Wizzard Fusion in Super Stock. For the IN Brass Jet class it has been split between BSRT and Viper chassis, but the Wizzard Fusion chassis will be in the mix too.

Well, we pulled another one off! Yes, even in the face of all the crap 2020 has brought us, it could not stop the 19th annual Gobbler Endurance Challenge! Kudos to all who made it to Greenwood Automotive for the 4-hour race. Looking at the final lap totals, it was an extremely fast and very close race. Team RFC took the top spot on the podium. Team Holden McGroin ended up on the second step of the podium due to penalties costing them 20 laps. Teams Pink Panther and Menace finished third and fourth respectively.

We currently have a couple regular racers with COVID (both are doing OK) and another in quarantine, so postponing the race is absolutely the right thing to do at this time. Big thanks to everyone who came out for some racing yesterday. Curt had the Lucky Dragon ready and racy when the doors opened at 10 AM and the racers began to file in. As some regulars were off in OH at other races, others had other commitments, not to mention COVID concerns, we weren't sure what the turnout would be for the racing.

 

We were pleasantly surprised to welcome 11 racers, including a brand new racer, Patrick, who had seen the race reports here on Sloblog and came to check it out. He arrived after IN Brass Jet practice had ended. With SS practice starting, Tmac fixed Patrick up with a car and controller and he hit the track for some practice, along with everyone else. Many racers finished up practice to leave enough time to grab a steaming bowl of homemade vegetable soup provided by Curt. Everyone practiced good health safety, using hand sanitizer frequently and keeping their masks on - except when eating, of course - throughout the day. 

 

Racing got underway just after noon with SS, When the 1-minute heats were completed, first and second were separated by just a few sections. The SS mains promised some close, fast racing. Dwayne took the well-deserved win, followed by Dave, Charlie and Gary. See the full results below.

 

IN Brass Jet was up after the conclusion of SS. Our new racer, Patrick, as well as veteran racer Chuck, had to leave, but that still left 9 racers to duke it out for a podium spot. It was a close finish between Fred and Dave racing fender-to-fender for the entire race. See all the results below. 

 

Before everyone left, everyone got their choice of some great looking HOST racing bodies, thanks to the generosity of Bob Dame. Next race, we'll have a free raffle for one of Bob's advanced hot stock arms! THANKS BOB!

We kicked off Super Bowl weekend with a super race at Fast Phil Walleck's Little Rascals Raceway, a big and twisting 4-lane Wizz Track. Since this will be the official Pro Super Stock and Pro Spec Racer track at this year's HOPRA Nationals, this re-scheduled event drew racers not only from around Indiana, but also from Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri. Phil's track is not for the faint of heart, it's a tricky beast that tests driver's patience and skills. The one-hour practice sessions for both classes were fast and furious with only a few drivers left feeling comfortable with their setups and times.

 

Racing kicked off with Super Stock and it quickly became clear the big man from MO was the one to beat. Rick May lead the way, but our host Fast Phil, along with Ohio's Dave Craddock and Ryan Peoples kept him honest. It was pretty much the same thing for the IN Brass Jet racing, except Fast Phil sat it out to attend to hosting duties. At the end of the day, it was a sweep for Rich. Congratulations Big Dawg!

 

Huge thanks to Phil, his beautiful wife and family for hosting. Phil's wife served up a great lunch featuring hot wings, ribs and wonderful Super Bowl cheese dip... not to mention a big selection of donuts, soft drinks and more. Big, big thanks to all the racers to turned out for this event too!

Race 6 Results...

 

It seems when it's cold and there's snow on the ground, it draws the largest amount of serious slot racers to our annual combo event with the Midwest Series group. Equipped with masks, sanitizer and tons of serious HO racing equipment, 23 racers from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Missouri made the trek to Tony McWilliams' spacious racing complex. The racing was fast and furious in all 3 classes. Huge thanks to all the racers who turned out for a very full day/night of seriously fun HO slot racing... especially those who traveled far and wide. Everyone was masked up all the time during the event. 

 

Special thanks to the Tony and his family for hosting and providing some very tasty food to keep us all going during this epic event. Also, thanks to Rick DeRosa for bringing along some of his wife's uber delicious cookies.

Two weeks from today we return to Tmac's emporium of speed for Race #7. We'll be racing SS on the Riverside bullring and IN Brass Jets on the Cobra. Here's the full details and directions (for any of those who haven't make the trek to this HO racing mecca in Middletown.

 

Saturday, March 20^th

RIVERSIDE RACEWAY- HOPRA Super Stock (Brystal 4-lane) – Tony McWilliams

COBRA RACEWAY- INDIANA Brass Jet (Brystal 4-lane) – Tony McWilliams

Track Opens @ 10 am – IN Brass Jet/SS practice from 10-12; SS racing at 12:30; IN Brass Jet racing immediately after SS race

  

Everyone is welcome, just remember that masks (covering your nose and mouth at all times) are mandatory. Hand sanitizer will be available, but it is advised that you bring your own (and use it often). It should go without saying... if you don't feel good the morning of the race, please stay home for the good of everyone involved.
