Report by Tom Spellcheck
August 25, 2020
Nine racers in the house for Tuesday night NASCAR hardbody racing on the Engleman, five in the B Main and four in the A Main.
The B Main wasn’t quite a runaway for Steve Russo, but almost. He led every lap, ran the fastest times, and never relinquished the lead. Stan Brzezynski almost made it a contest, running second most of the race and setting a new personal best lap total to finish three laps back of Steve. Two laps back of Stan was Mike Haskins in third. Tom Varinecz stayed on the same lap as Mike for three quarters of the race but had controller issues and ended up a distant fourthth. Rodger Airey had mechanical issues and dropped out after three heats.
In the A Main, Al Hernandez and Spellcheck swapped the lead back and forth for the majority of the race, with Al taking the win by half a lap at the end, setting a new personal best lap total in the process by about seven laps. Spellcheck set a new lane record on Blue and might have been a bit closer at the end, had he not ended up on the floor after being a rider. The first half of the race had everyone on the same lap the whole time, making it the closest contest in recent memory. Even at the end, Ray Carlisi was only a half lap behind Spellcheck for third place. Mike Marciano was in contention until he ran purple and black, finishing exactly two laps behind Ray. A very competitive A Main overall.
Rob Geibel was absent, so Mic Byrd was race director for the B Main, and Tom Varinecz did the job for the A Main. Thanks!
