Just incredible video.

Vintage film footage and perspective about Lotus F1 cars starting at the 19:55 mark was especially interesting to me.

But, really, the entire length of it is brilliant. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do if you haven't seen it yet.

Thanks for posting the above link.

What a terrible waste of such talent.

I'm so glad that I got to race slot cars with him in the late '60s in Christchurch, New Zealand.  :)

He was indeed a great driver that I admired back in the '60s!

Great video!

I was lucky to be at the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix atop a building overlooking the Casino turn. In the last few laps Rindt came out of nowhere to pressure unflappable Jack Brabham to a mistake in the last turn for the win. Rindt was sideways at Casino and was making up seconds every lap. I believe his fastest race lap at the end was 4 seconds faster than he qualified! I had no idea who won the race until later but it was awesome to watch!

Don't know why they call him an "uncrowned" champion, he was crowned World Champion (albeit posthumously). He also won LeMans.

Cheers

Because he was never "formally" crowned as champion.

A King or Queen is alive when crowned.

Understand?

Ron,

Please share the story of how you raced slot cars with Jochen Rindt. Would love to read it!

Ricky,

In the late 60's, many of the top International Formula One racers, made their way to New Zealand and Australia for their summer break and raced in the old Tasman Series.

Wigram was an old airfield in Christchurch where I gre up.

On the Friday night before the Wigram race, I was hanging out at one of the old commercial raceways, when someone said "hey look, their is Graham Hill over there".

To my amazement, some of the world's best F1 racers had dropped in to my raceway for a break. Included in the group, were if my memory serves me right, were Chris Amon, Jochen Rindt, Piers Courage, Derek Bell and Graham Hill, as well as some of the local racers.

Of course, some of them wanted a "play" with our slot cars :)
