Due to the Coronavirus situation, D3 Hardbody racing suspended racing since our March 15 race at BPR. Today, Sunday Sept. 20 is the first race since March.

A light turnout of racers was expected but the racing was a lot of fun as usual. Seven racers participated along with several volunteers who turn marshaled.

The first race was a Mixed race with seven entries. A couple of new cars driven by Keith Tanaka (Trans-Am Camaro) and Jim Lane (Under 2 Liter Trans-Am VW bug) ended up on the podium. Keith finished first with 242 laps, Jim was second with 235 laps and Phil Nyland was third with 254 laps (Can-Am Lola).[

The GTP race had five entries. Hector Gonzalez won with 263 laps followed by Phil Nyland with 260 laps and Doug Jacks third with 247 laps.

Both races were a bit slower than normal due to the power supply being 12.5 volts instead of the usual 12.8 volts. Both races were run with only four racers at a time (on alternating lanes), wearing face masks and separation at the drivers panel. All eight lanes were used while only four cars on the track in each heat.

All in all it was a fun day of racing as usual. The inconvenience of wearing face masks and keeping our social distance was not a big deal as everyone enjoyed racing again. For lunch we did take-out at Imperial Burger.

Thanks to Jim Watterson (and Eddie) for supporting D3 Hardbody racing at Buena Park Raceway. Thanks to Victor Dubrowsky and Keith for race directing. And thanks to several volunteer turn marshals: Alex Dubrowsky, Bruce Frye, Mel Moon, Mill Conroy, and Russell Van Wyck.

Here's the race/photo report: Race Report.

Our next D3 Hardbody races on Sunday, Oct. 18th. BPR opens at 11 AM (not 10 AM), mixed race at noon followed by the GTP race.
