I had never heard of this until now - having just stumbled across it!
Has anyone tried this before?
Looks so realistic.

Slot car racing without the slots!
I don't know why, but nothing happens 'til the 1:10 mark - so skip ahead!
No track marshals needed!

I have followed the progress of this Magracing for some time, it has endured all sorts of trouble, and progress have been slow, Mainly, i Think, because it is a one man business, With limited ressources. Cars are a bit slow, but I find it interesting.

Those do look really cool. But at this point--why not just go Mini Z racing? They are full R/C--and a lot faster with plenty of various cars to race.

Here's the link to the Magracing website: http://www.magneticracing.com/
It seems they have been recently purchased by a division(?) of Scalextric.

It is my understanding that Scalextric is a brand/division of Hornby Hobbies Ltd.

The Mini-Z's seem really cool, but I raced 1/10 and 1/12 scale dirt and carpet cars at various times in my life, and sucked at it, so I'm sure I'd suck even more at driving Mini-Z's.
I've always enjoyed slot cars more anyway, so no great loss.

I guess for the same reason that slot car racers don't go Mini-z :-)
MagRacing is all about realism, we don't want the cars to go unrealistic fast, like Mini-z's :-)
I am in the progress of building a new MagRacing track in 1/24 scale.

Hi Mikael!
I'm really fascinated with this type of setup - but I don't need the distraction right now because I'm in the midst of planning/constructing my own portable folding slot car track! LOL
But I don't mind the distraction. haha
By the way Mikael, is the roll cage car in the video, a car you scratch built or is it a kit please - and is it a 1/24 scale?
From my perspective, it just seems to look much larger than our 1/24 slot car we run, due to the larger diameter wheels/tires.
Thank you.

Hi Ernie!
Portable folding slot car track, that sounds interesting! Would like to see it when finished :-)
The car is designed by me and 3D printed.
It is 1/24 scale and designed for the Tamiya Body (VW Golf Racing Group 2 – #24008)
The car can drive as a regular RC car, MagRacing car and as a slot car.
The chassis can use a 130 motor or a brushless 2030 motor.

That's fantastic Mikael!
May I inquire as to what type of material you employ in your 3D chassis please?
How long have you had the material in use and how is it holding up?
Pardon me for asking all these questions - but as a retired design engineer - I'd like to know these things - if you won't mind that I inquire.
Thanks again Mikael - appreciate your time in sharing.
Ernie
By the way, if you're interested, here is my thread on a folding track and what inspired me to want to build something similar: http://slotblog.net/...-track-concept/
Thank you.

Thank you Ernie :-)
The cars is printed by Shapeways and the material is Versatile Plastic Also known as Strong and Flexible, Nylon 12 Plastic, PA12, Polyamide, PA 2200.
It is holding up very good, some of the cars I have been driving for 4 years now. I also started to paint them, to get a smooth surface and it's easier to clean the chassis.
Thank you for the link :-)

I came across this video that explains the different racing lines the magracing car can use while racing.
Really interesting how it works and even shows a few guys racing - which looks like real racing to me!
Looks like I'm gonna have to try this out in the future!
