I have about 40 donuts I need to grind down, and would prefer not to die from old age first.
I would like to find a VERY coarse wheel or alternative way of getting the mounted donut down to about .750 before final sizing.
Your thoughts and ideas?

R-Geo sells a replacement drum for a Hudy tire truer that uses standard drum sanding sleeves. I use a 60 grit sleeve on mine so I can grind off excess rubber quickly.
I believe Ralph Thorne Racing sells a replacement drum with coarse grit and Dave Parrotta will refinish your drum with a coarse grit.
Those are the three possibilities that I know of.

Any kind of pin attachment that takes a core layer off is the easiest and best.
I think there is one attachment available for a Hudy.
Better than dismantling and changing drums all the time.

To have this fitted, it has to be the Hudy version with an on-off switch. It would not fit the version without.

The base plate is not as wide on the one without the switch. The "cutter" will hit the right side upright (with the bearing for the drum).

Although ther unit I have does have an on-off switch, it is simply free floating the lead to the power source. Sounds like the trimmer would not pose an issue.

As long as Your Hudy have/had a on/off switch, the base plate is wide enough for the trimmer.
