I've just read this post from Paul Kassens on Facebook:

"It is with a heavy heart that I received this sad news of the passing of a dear friend to all of us in this hobby of slot car racing, John Ford. John was the long time publisher of Scale Auto Racing News slot car magazine, as well as a former track builder and raceway owner... and a true icon of the slot car racing hobby/sport.

I received this email from Linda Ford:

"I am sorry to inform you that John Ford passed away yesterday at 3 PM. He had been in the hospital for three weeks and after failed attempts at dialisysis due to his heart condition he left this life. He will be missed.

Sincerely,

Linda Ford"

My heart goes out to Linda Ford, and their family and friends... as well as all of us who knew John in the slot car racing community all over the world.

- Paul Kassens - The Old Weird Herald"

Goodbye, John.

Wanted you to come to see what Peter and I have built for a history of slot car racing and I know Peter had a lot more questions to ask you.

Rest in peace.

Sad news.

When I got back in, in late '81, John Ford, Bob Haines, and Ken Macdowell were probably the three most important figures in slot racing.

For those not aware, before his involvement in slot racing, John was a disc jockey.

May he rest in peace.

P: Here's a nice comment from John's Facebook page, earlier in the year, after repeated serious heart issues:

"Well, almost made it 75 years without heart problems. And now some 40 days from my 75th birthday I have had two heart attacks in a 30-day period. Open heart surgery to follow later this week.

I will either be OK or I will find out how to teleport from earth to the pearly gates in the blink of an eye.

My plans are to buy an electric car and stay on earth until it runs out of gas. Either way, your job is to teach all children about slot car racing. It's the one thing they cant do on their phone.

I love this hobby and I love everyone that has helped me enjoy it."

RIP, John, and condolences to Linda and all your family and friends.

When I got back into slot racing in 1992, John Ford and SARN was a big part of getting me back up to speed.

Thanks, John, and keep it in the celestial slot!

He loved slot cars and in return slot cars loved him ...

For most of us here OWH and SARN were a lifeline.

Godspeed, John. I appreciate the time we spent together so very much.

Sure I have a retirement plan, I plan to build and race slot cars.
