Does anyone know how to install these drag wheels on an axel? There doesn't seem to be a way.

IIRC, you have to install a BB, and then use an axle that is a press fit on the ID.

Thanks very much Mr. Swiss! That press fit of the axle into the bearing seems a bit tricky for this.

What I mean is, the first end doesn't seem that tough but how would you get the other end pressed on? You would need to have the exact length of the axle and the exact distance between the wheel wells on your car. Then figure out how to press those on with out body damage. Unless you have rail that gets the wheels that might be tough.

You can take off the body.

Maybe Mark Mattei can comment.

I seem to remember he had that style of wheels on his car, for a recent vintage race, we had.

Also, I seem to remember one of them kept falling off.

I did have a wheel fall off one of my vintage dragsters, the wheel had been installed in the 1960s and finally fell off. I did recently install a Strombecker set similar to the ones pictured, first the ball bearings are pressed into the wheels, the axle is not a pressfit and should slide in with little resistance, the axle is secured to the bearing with the Loctite bonding agent of your choice.

Secured to the bearing? I would have thought it would be the wheel.

I was going to mention using Loctite, but I was hesitant because of the scenario where it would lock up the BB.

IOW, use very sparingly.

The original K&B Dragmaster kit and K&B dragster front wheels sold separately on the card ,came with a small tube of glue to fix the wheels to the axle.

Secured to the bearing? I would have thought it would be the wheel.

That would be challenging as the wheels are independently rotating and the axle is stationary.

The ball bearing outer race is fitted into the blind hole in the wheel, the inner race is glued to the axle.

AH! Thank you oh great and wise namesake. Seriously , this  was what I was trying to figure out. I have two sets of wheels like this sitting in my dungeon. That's why they are sitting there. Thanks to all you guys for the input.

Should be able to put a hot soldering iron on the wheel, close to the bearing.

This will break down the Loctite and expand the aluminum.

To remove a bad bearing here is what I did to make a bearing puller. I took an old threaded axle , a bent one will do, cut it in half and filed or ground it down so there was a bit of a lip at the tip and I could slip this under the inner race of the bearing. Then I put some toothpicks or wood into the hole to prevent the lip from slipping out and used a spacer or stack of washers which are larger than the bearing outer race. Then using a nut ( against a smaller washer) on the threaded side of the axle, I pulled the bearing out.
