when I resumed racing in late 1983 I ran into a bit of trouble with the rules regarding classes. In the 60's and early 70's I was deemed pro in AZ USRA races and semi-pro in LA usra races, there were times though when my motors were overwhelming and I got moved up on a by race basis. but in 1983 I was raising a family and a wife who hated slot cars so I stuck with box stock and I-15 just to race. unfortunately some of the guys raised issues with a former pro or semi-pro running box stock or I-15. I attempted to set up a 27 and open program which as you know takes money and a lot of time, well my wife threw a fit over the time it took away from family. Some of the guys were willing to let me come down in class just to let me race, I promised that if I ever out powered the field I'd blackflag myself. as it turned out I was almost always slowest qualifier and almost always in the top three. the rules came out again and I had to move up again. after a couple of races where I did not make move ups into the main I was told by the then usra socal pres and another friend from socal that my lap tabulations were being manipulated by a track owner. with all that going on I gave it up in1992 about two weeks before the third daughter was born. I now have four kids all university educated, a new vehicle a paid off house and want to race slots again but cannot go to socal to race with all the lock-downs etc. won't one of your tracks migrate to AZ? please, we hace a reasonable pandemic policy in place and if the rules let me race I'm ready.

I feel for you don't think any track in Socal is going to come to AZ

but when things calm down you can always come up and play here like the other AZ racers that Play in Retro

Lol,,,,, you picked a bad time to get excited about getting back into racing
Most racing series, that I know of, are weary and postponed their events.
And those that are racing are doing strict protocols, fingers crossed, to be safe
I'm being patient myself, prepping cars and motors to race.
I am looking to get back into wing cars with omb and was working on setting up a prod24 car this last weekend. Maybe retro on the king. But that would be three weekends of playing,,,,, gf will be mad, lol. But I'm being patient, waiting out this unfortunate situation

I have been building up my arsenal over several years but dealing with health issues had kept me from attempting the trek to SoCal to race. Then C....-.. struck along with an i'll timed "get off your butt" pm came in and I said screw it (stainless of course), I have gotten the urge to go ahead and wind some old style opens like 27/28, 26/27 etc and risk exposure to epoxy. I just bought two beautiful cans from Beuf that will get my hand-built winds. I'll never get to run them  it looks like so they will look great until the estate sale where someone will speculate over who the winder was.

of course if I do run them it will be only to see how they qualify.

Take care guys, I just got news that one whole branch of my family that I've been on the outs with has that thing that's going around.

Are the new "pandemic" rules affecting what can be open in LA County now?  It seems our tyrant governor is trying to shut down more business's for a few weeks.  Happy New Year and good luck to you all!  Stay safe --

Tim

Piranha is in Orange Cnty and I think I remember Rich saying that he is on a 30 or so person capacity limit in pandemic.

I didn't think that was OC.  Jason says LA County--but as long as you can follow the "guidelines" it seems you are good!  Let's race!

My bad, Jason, I thought I heard Rich say OC at the wing race. Anyways I remembered 3o something people being the limit.

Even if you don't race, can you attend the Checkpoint just to watch?

So how many parking spaces? I count like 25 or so, there is street parking and the eating place next door, church across the street?

I remember the raceway in south bay in the 90s, drag racing was big, had to park at the mall across the way and walk three blocks.

You're always such a "ray of sunshine" Mike!   :laugh2:    Are you planning on going?   :victory:    Good luck this Saturday--it sounds like both the Flat Track and the King will be in action.  Should be FUN!

Ha ha,,,,, I would like to, but will not, I will leave space for those 38 that are more determined than myself in spirit and competitiveness.

I will return with enthusiasm this summer to support this fantastic raceway

Hasn’t the nazi that runs California decided yet to shoot on site the 39th person in any establishment?
