Got this off ebay- https://www.ebay.com...872.m2749.l2649

Like he said a Rannalli chassis with a DC706. Had to do some work, after restoring the chassis (and using my bad solder skills and no acid flux on the wheelbase) I started work on the motor. Didn't run well at all so I cleaned the comm and oiled it well. After that it ran well didn't need new brushes or extensive work. I didn't replace the body as I liked that it had some character. Cleaned up the wheels and polished the plates on the motor and then just put on some rubber body protectors. Also had to fix the guide arm length and then put some Cox style braid on it. Here are some pics. Any comments are welcome.

The chassis looks to be in great shape, almost new. Three numbers & a driver would finish that body's detailing, though they might not be vintage items. Should you need any more of those screw-on braids, there's been a guy in the Midwest on eBay selling 6 or 8 pr. lots for <$10. The same guy also sells screw-on guides in lots of 8 or 10. They're similar to your Cox, but have no molded in names on those I have.

The chassis was in good structural shape. The orig. owner didn't solder the wheelbase in so that was the only real work that had to be done. The rest was cosmetic.

As for the braid I am in good shape. In a lot I bought, there was enough braid to fill a small cup. Some of it I threw away but 3/4 was good.

Thought I would share some of the changes I have made to this car over the past few months. Most of these were to help it handle on the track as it was deslotting pretty easily and understeering some on the flat corner.

  • Today, I radiused the edges of the tires to help reduce tilting and maybe induce some slide in the rear
  • I cut down the front tires to bring the chassis lower. (Not shown in photo)
  • I replaced the worn out guide with a nice NOS one
  • I changed out the stiff, springy braid for some softer Cox quick-change braid
  • Now for some cosmetic changes, I lowered the body (especially in the front) to give it a cooler stance
  • I also added some Russkit decals. The one has incurred some racing damage but this is one of my fun cars that I push to the limit.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

The overall body stance is improved. Are the Pittman's brushes & spring still in good shape?  What voltage do you run on your track?

I agree, looks even better now with the front tires cut down. The brushes are good and the spring is almost like-new. I think it was both protected and not run much by the original owner. I can only run my slow 1/32 cars on my Strombecker but when I go to an actual track they run 12V.

Yes, only 14. Some of the greatest drivers and builders were that age.

I am mostly interested in pro or scratchbuilt cars. Each one has innovative ideas and lots of work has been put into them. I also think they have more style. That is why I mostly don't have the RTR and kit cars. And yes, it is very fun.

Issac I am 70 and could not do what you do! Age is irrelevant Its the person.
