Just got an Ulrich Suspension car. Has front suspension and steering but not rear. I hope to sell it but would like to know a few things first.

I have done some research and it has a DC70 6V. Know most of everything but how much is it worth? I remember one went for something crazy a little while ago while but what should I expect?

Thanks in advance.

Thought you would have wanted to keep something like that Isaac, they're great pieces.

20 years ago, they were going pretty cheaply, but in the last 10 years or so, a full chassis with both front and rear suspension will go for about $200. A few auctions have gone ever crazier, but that's hard to predict  The rear suspension unit is more common than the front steering/suspension. With a little luck your's might be worth $100 or so, but hard to tell. Depends on overall condition, look, etc. Given the current Midget craze, it's a bit hard to predict something like that. .

This is my Ulrich stash. Would like to build into a complete car with the correct motor.

Okay, I did read that the front is harder to find.

I plan to give it a full resto and put the Du-Bro Cheetah body I showed in a previous post on it. I would keep the body but my other bodies don't match it very well. I have a Ford GT body that goes pretty well but it is a bit scrappy.

Good info, thanks for everything. I would keep it but would rather make back the money I spent on some like '67 era stuff. Champion, Cobra, etc (which i plan to show). the big item I saw in the lot was a Cobra armature tube and a Champion 507.

Thanks again.

Very nice cars Martin. While an RP 77 isn't the best they are technically correct and those can be found rather cheap. Very nice.

There's not really a "correct" motor for the chassis, but it's true that the Pittman DC70 (RP77, DC77, etc.) is the typical motor used. The Pittman DC70 and 77 come in 6 volt versions, which are pretty good motors, and should have plenty of grunt for these chassis. Really, any inline open-frame motor will fit.

Martin, I like that modification of your chassis with the Tradeship motor; I have about 6 of these, with all kinds of different motors fitted: Kemtron, 36D, etc. And in fact, the one that I've run in competition is under an Allard body (Pactra) and has a K&B steering unit fitted to the front, because the Ulrich unit wouldn't fit very well! These chassis are fairly wide, especially if you use normal wider tires - they really came out at a time when skinnier tires were the norm. There's an old article in Car Model on fitting one of these chassis to a Ferrari 275 vac-form body, but it was a tight fit!

The other option is an open-wheel model, but that usually means carving out lots of axle space both front and rear. I wanted to use it on something like a 34 Ford, but same problem because of the molded in fenders.

Show photos when you get it done Isaac, curious to see what it looks like.

Don, I haven't got it yet and I was even contemplating maybe doing a whole restoration post (no promises). But I will show some pictures. And I don't think you want to see it now!  :laugh2:

I was also thinking that with a few mods you could probably put a DC-196 in it. Similar motor just a bit smaller. You could even put a 65X arm in it. Sounds fun . But I won't do that  :frown: , gotta keep it simple.

Thanks for the motor suggestions.  I always thought the Tradeship was a bit of a anchor.

Thanks Issac for making me think about this again. Once I pick a motor and body for the brass chassis I want an all features in car.

Suspension front and rear, steering front and Russkit wire wheels etc.

P.S. maybe it should have Ulrich mags?

Lots of good info here. Thanks to Don and other contributors.

I love the Russkit wheels but they are so darned expensive. If you have some I would choose that over the Ulrich cast wheels.

I thought Ulrich stocker wheels are expensive as well as Russkit Lola wheels?

Yep, but not as rare as the Russkit Lola wheels!

Update: if people haven't seen apparently these cars are VERY desirable. Has a bid of $305 right now. If anyone has a chance to get one for cheap (like me) jump on it cause you can sell it for big money (and then buy what you really want).  :D

I really think this is crazy. A weekend of restoring and now it is worth $300!  :shok: I can't imagine what a nice full suspension car would bring.

Here is what it looked like before, pretty sad. The body mounts were the hardest thing to get fixed. Someone also painted the outside of a clear body! :treaten:

Yes indeed Isaac.

That's really nuts for a chassis with a front steering unit only, but I looked at the bid history and, as usual these days, two guys are going mano à mano for it - one with few feedbacks (50) and one with a moderate amount (250 or so). Hope it goes through for you.

I have noticed some skyrocketing prices lately, so maybe we're in a new upturn phase for values... we shall see.

Yes, I saw that too. I looked at the feedback for the one buyer and he has bought some slot car stuff and a couple other expensive items so I don't have too much worry.
