Hey folks, this is my first post to the forum. Until last week, I had not run a slot car in 26 years. My dad just finished building a track in the attic, and I feel like a kid again.
I grew up in this house, and my dad always talked about building a slot car track in the attic. Once he retired, he really ramped up the talk. After several weeks of cleaning out 40 years worth of forgotten treasure (mostly junk), he got to working like a mad scientist, and boom, he was done. Its not very big (mom said he couldnt take up the entire front part), but were already talking about extending the back stretch another 15-20 feet (now mom sees the fun were having and doesnt care).
Where did this all start you might wonder... My dad is a gearhead and speed freak, he has been involved with drag racing since he was 16, and has taken nearly anything with a motor to the extreme. He owned a slot car track back in the '70s, but it fizzled out as they most often do. He showed me a wing car a few days ago that he had back then, a cop buddy of his clocked it at 94 mph. I don't know what todays speeds are, but I imagine 100 MPH is reaching the physical limits for the size of these things. Fast forward to the early '90s and a track opened near us (Hot Slots), and then I was introduced to the fun (age 12-13). You can my imagine my disappointment when they packed up and traveled to the next city in search of an income boost.
Thats my quick story. Mr. Wells encouraged me to share, and thought everyone would like seeing it. I'm sure I'll have a few questions, but have been able to find most of the answers so far by searching and reading.
