I started by taking it all apart.

In doing this I found that this motor had barely been run, maybe just 10 min. or so. Brushes were just broken in, comm showed just traces of use.

The endbell had acid flux damage however. A little cleaning up made it usable though. I just cleaned the can with a wet Q-tip and I polished the comm.

Trying to be correct I put stock springs in and then put it all back together.

I oiled it up and then it sung. Ran well, the rear ball bearings were just a little scratchy but not much.

Altogether, a very easy process.

That can bearing has probably always been a little scratchy.  :laugh2:  In the 70's, we used the dark (brown, not gold or clear) Tiger Milk to lubricate bearings.
