Should sell these as a kit of parts... with a box and controller too, Parma style!

Is there any plan to have this series brought back in anything other than a local track series?

That's what I was going to say. I hadn't heard of the series before, but I just looked at the rules, and I see Hawk 7s and fixed gear ratios in every class. That would have been a deal breaker for me.

We run the class at Upstate.  It has been a good class for us.  We had a bit of a motor discussion again last night and after two years of Hawk 7's the general consensus is that they have harder brushes so take longer to break in but they last longer.  Some seem to underperform but we can't figure out why.  Last night the talk was all about water break in and reversing the current break in.

No need to name other brands but another common competitor seems more consistent out of the box but with softer brushes, it has a short life. And so it went for every brand.  There's something wrong with all of them it seems.  They all originate in the same country.

As for the gearing, the 11/37 works pretty good.

We just have to be reminded what the box stock is about.  Leveling the racing playing field and providing and easy entry point for unindoctrinated racers.  I had a modified LMP class before and we had just about every sort of chassis show up, and body styles too.  I still have a couple of boxes of fast looking and popular clear bodies.  Everybody jumped in and then as it became clear that there were about 4 racers that really had this thing down, the rest started falling off fast.  The box stock has been much more competitive which was the purpose behind our running it.

Anyway, if the series originator and promoter isn't enthusiastic about his own series then I suppose it's a mute point.

Who was the originator? No longer having any local raceways sometimes keeps me out of the loop on things.

As best I can understand, it was JK.  There was a lot of buzz and rule adjustments and then....poof

If you are going to run a Box Stock or spec class you must have consistent motors and JK could not supply that.

End of story

Im not defending JK, but it was hoped the series would take on more of a national scope. However, when the dust settled, it ended up being a very modest regional series. As a host to one round of the series, the Viper Pit saw spirited but limited participation.

Honestly, JK could have done a much better job of supporting and hyping the series, motor issues notwithstanding.

FYI, the VP now runs its own flavor of Boxstock - we require Mid-America horsepower.

For the record, Tim, owner of JK, was the originator of the series.

There are a few raceways in the TN-GA area that are running a spec series similar to what was used in the JK Boxstock series.

The raceways involved have good turnouts and competitive racing. I would say that is a fine legacy for the Boxstock concept.

There are different definitions to boxstock. The one JK used was a completely stock RTR car, no changes whatsoever. My observation is this worked reasonably well where the raceways stuck to that concept, but racers are often wanting to extract whatever advantage is possible, and as rules were modified and things changed, problems arose. What racers will do to motors in the name of reaping more performance, gearing experiments, and mixing of motor brands all leads to problems. I haven't found any two brands of what are supposed to be similar performing motors that are alike, motors can easily be mis-geared, and things done to motors for performance enhancement either in break-in or otherwise can be damaging. So it seems where things stay stock as intended, the results are usually good, but problems ensue otherwise.

Boxstock is a great idea, but there seems to be different interpretations as to what that means that can lead to success or failure depending on whether all the participants share the same interpretation or not.

bottom line the racers didnt like the Hawk 7 so it now morphed into a spec chassis and stock gearing with different motors
