So sad. Too bad someone couldn't have saved the sign.

Yes, saving the sign would have been good.

I remember my folks going to a store call Masters (like a Walmart as I recall). The Masters store was perpendicular to Elmsford Raceway. I was young (maybe eight or so) and I didn't even know Elmsford Raceway existed.
After shopping at Masters I asked my parents if we could go over and check out Elmsford Raceway. I recall the entrance being on the left side (facing the building). We entered and walked down to the basement of the building. I recall three tracks (I think). The big Nouvalari was most impressive.

Masters was in the same shopping center as the Elmsford Raceway in the picture. The original raceway location was just a couple hundred yards away in the next shopping center under the bowling alley like you described. I spent most of my youth there.
I would have paid a nice sum of money for the Nuvolari sign if I could have bought it. The last time I was in NY I was seriously thinking of stealing at least the "E" from the Elmsford sign. I have been in Florida since 1994 so I never really raced at the second or final location.
Here is one of my souvenirs from the raceway. This lap time sign was posted on the Nuvolari. The time only lasted five months but at least they spelled my name right, as Ray's last name has two L's in it, not one.

The one time I visited Elmsford, the raceway was still under the bowling alley. Did any of the tracks survive or did they end up in the landfill?
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

All in the landfill, the word is.

The tracks were in pretty bad shape. The slots were worn out, especially on the 220. A resurfacing of them would have been required to bring them back to their glory days.

There was a guy (It's always some guy) in Massachusetts who was buying tracks when Elmsford lost the lease. The Nouvalari was well past its prime, and I think existed better in memory than in life. There was at least one other track which had moved from the Connecticut store after that closed which should have been in reasonable shape; possibly an Ogilvie orange.
The guy was supposed to open a business in eastern Massachusetts but I've never heard if it got off the ground.
