Here is the restored car. Was very fun to fix up. Can was lightly painted with Ford PS pump paint. Arm was mid-to-late '69 era. The gear mesh is a bit tight but after running it I expect it to be better.
Does anyone know who made the body?

Very cool, Isaac.
The body is a Dynamic #1524 Ferrari 612 (Can-Am).

Thanks, that is helpful.

It was built by or for Murphy.

The motor is an early Mura 16D, hence the long can bushing. It appears to be in "near-new" shape. The chassis is in pretty good shape for one 50+ years old. Nice restoration!

The motor was definitely not in near-new. I think it was actually a Lenz because of the orange paint.
But the can was a rustball at first. I had to soak it in Evapo-Rust to get it done. I then scrubbed it with a wire brush, masked off the bearing and painted it. Polishing the shim inside helps a lot, too.

Let's just say the motor cleaned up well.

Hi Isaac,
Lenz did have an orange painted version of their motor.
But generally speaking Lenz motors are timed with the commutator advanced in the clockwise (CW) direction and Mura the opposite counterclockwise (CCW) direction as viewed from the end bell. Your frame is set up for a CCW motor. Did you happen to note the commutator advance direction when you had the motor apart?

It was CCW, probably a Mura then. I just never knew of an orange Mura. But there most likely was.

I presume this would be the orange MURA motor: https://www.worthpoi...-hot-1853612465

Plumber works great for handling in corners and it was tremendously easy to drive to drive on this track.

Love seeing you put some laps in.
Is that a local track for you Isaac?
Posted 17 October 2021 - 09:18 PM
Thanks Rick.
Martin-Yes, but no. It is the closest thing to me but still about an hour and a half away. So it is definitely a trek that takes some planning.

The motor mounting plate looks similar to a Mini Wheels one I have.
