I learned a few days ago that long-time Slotblog member (since 2008) Garry Haworth recently passed away, but I have been unable to learn the date he died. Sketchy info indicates the cause of death was a heart attack, which he had survived for a few days after it occurred. I've not been able to locate an obituary for Garry.

I met Garry at the very first R4 in 2008 and know he raced Retro, Wing cars, and HO for a number of years. At one time he had his own HO home track in Simi Valley, CA, which he called Haywire Raceway. I remember seeing Garry within the last few years, perhaps at a race at Slotcars-R-Us in TN, but can't remember exactly. I do know, because he posted saying so, that he and the late Oscar Morales were "best slot racing buddies."

If anyone has any additional info regarding Garry's passing, or any fond memories of him, please post them here.

RIP, Garry,

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Sad to hear.

Garry was a fixture in slot car community for quite a few years.

May he RIP.

So sorry to hear more of our compatriot's passing! Far too young in my own humble opinion.

RIP, Gary. Prayers for you and your family.

She's real fine, my 409!!!

Sad news for sure. It was nice to see Garry a while back when he stopped by BPR. We shared some stories and had a few laughs.

Godspeed, my friend.

We have known Garry since I think the late '80s. He was a fun guy to be around and had many fun times when he was out in SoCal. We did a little work on tire rubber back then but it never panned out.

I tried to get hold of the family and have not been able to get a response.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

RIP, Gary. We will all race again at that big King track...

Back when I sort of came back into racing in the mid 80's-1992 Garry was a brilliant I-15 racer that befriended Ted Tucholski and me, it was always good to see him at races in SoCal. I think Garry made it out to AZSCR a time or two on the Hasse Blue King they had, he was always fast and friendly.

A great guy.
