Track reopening in Massachusetts

Was originally in Hanover Mass in the early 90's. Looking at space in the same general area to re-open, Wondering if there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile, will have a Hillclimb, tri-oval, drag strip, and possibly a flat road course and commercial HO track.

Mike we have talked and we think it would be great. Talked to some of my racers Friday night and they too thought it would be great. Some of them come to Modelville Hobby from RI.
Good luck.

Hi Mike,
With only two commercial raceways left in New England another raceway would surely be greatly received by local racers. The question would be what is the best plan to attract walk-in traffic, get them to come back a second time, get them hooked so they will be back on a regular basis, and ultimately getting them involved with the racing community. We need new hobbyist and racers to keep the hobby alive to support the tracks. That being said you are about 90 minutes from me. While I can't commit to a weekly program I can usually make something work if there is racing on the weekends.
Keep the cars simple. JK started running a boxstock series that appears to be catching on at a few raceways down south. The JK cars are pretty good right out of the box. I think about the only thing that needs to be done is solder the bushings in place.
Retro racing is most popular right now but these are certainly not beginner cars.

Would be fun, especially if you only needed to build one car (except for gearing), that would be legal and could be raced at any raceway. Helps keep the costs down and makes it easier for new racers to compete anywhere.

Mike,
It would be nice to have a slot raceway opening on the south shore again. I know that several of your customers now race at Modelville in HO and 1/24. Some also race at the Nantasket Beach Club Raceway in HO scale and 1/32 on the non-mag, custom four-lane wooden track.
I think the challenge would be finding a location that is affordable. With all those tracks you're looking at, that is lots of square footage. I like the large flat track that was used a few times for the national championship, now owned by Peter Lentros. I see that the HO Nuvolari Engleman once located at Nantasket Beach Raceway is now headed to Hanson.
Are you presently living on the south shore?

That Flat track may be all you need for 24 scale. That track is suppose to be very competitive. Instead of the yellow Hill Climb you may want to consider a wooden 32 scale track. That way you could draw from all three scales. I still remember that Hobbytown in the Hanover Mall had a plastic 32 scale track. Lot's of guys and kids wanted to race on it but the help in the store didn't know how to run a race or anything about the cars. You may want to come by the Nantasket Beach Club track and check it out.

Mike,
We have not had any racing due to the pandemic but I would be more than happy to show it to you on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It's located in my finished garage at 8 Front Street in Hull, Ma . telephone number 781-630-3064. When we get back to racing you may recognize some of the guys from your former 24 scale Hanover operation..

I missed this post earlier about the MTT that Peter has. That IS the Grand Raceway worlds track from 1989/90. I cleaned it up in Illinois before it went to Peter. I had maintained it for JK for many years from when it was new. 2030 can be a 40th anniversery race. I hoped to see it run the 30th.....
