I know that the 13M has a brass axle bracket. I don't know the difference the A provides, maybe a lower volt wind?

The 13M is also marked 6V version.
Just looked at the DH13 and DH13A - almost the same but the 13 has straight pole pieces and a felt pad around the front bearing, while the 13A has a slightly angled pole piece (for angled mounting on trains probably) and a regular oilite bearing in the front...

I saw that bent piece and thought it was damage. Good thing I didn't try to "correct" it! So does this mean they are both 6 volt rated motors? There were no printed inserts so I am wondering what is the RPM rating? It seems like they would make good home track racers!

Hi Gary,
I assume they're both 12 volt motors, since only the 13M is specifically given as 6V. They were probably only train motors, and when KTM realized they could also sell them for slots, they used a hotter winding... But I don't have any spec sheet either, and I don't think they were on any lists. If I remember, I'll tach them!

The 13M is the only one "made" for slot racing. On my RPM list both the 13A and the 13M are at 32,000 RPM. I think I got that from the Feb. '66 Model Car and Track Article.

If that RPM is correct that would be a pretty fair runner for the the home track or even a small commercial of the day. I was interested because I keep piling up older motors with history (cue the music for PdL's new book!) and would like to get some perspective as some of these are not in the magazines of the 60's that I love. Since I'm more able to put some cars together now since I had cataract surgery I am looking forward to finishing my track started many years ago. Lots of goodies I didn't even remember I had. Even scenery! I also forgot about the list I printed out containing Isaac's motor stats list. I am sure this took a lot of of time and effort and now reading it all again it gives a great place to start checking the motor stats. I had purchased a Pittman can from Auto World and kept it for many years thinking I would build a car similar to my 26D scratch built that came out pretty well (for a 14 year old). Alas, I was sure slot cars were gone for good and I don't know where it went but I now have another one (or two )to finally build a goody! Just need some more time. I just got two Jack Russell terrier pups and I can assure you there are no greater hellions on Earth than these two!
