The car looks cool with the smaller motor.

Is that a 1/8 mile track?

I would guess the extremely long reaction time is due to the speed controller. Doesn't it take some time to switch on?

Thanks Mike.....I bought it in 2000. Built by Hasse in the 80’s freestanding 1/4 mile. I put up 6 sections @ 48 feet and used the sections that had the sensors in them. I ended up with an Outlaw 31 foot long “ race “ track with 14 feet of shutdown. It’s 3 1/2 feet longer than an 1/8  mile. 90 Amp Bulldog power supplies w/ 50-55 farrad Hyper caps per lane. Trik Trac timing system with LED bulbs in a full 2 foot tall xmas tree.

Dave the bad reaction time is from the Wife and me not getting our preproduction prep in order. The car leaves just like a brushed motor, poof gone ! I cut some .00x lights with it. Got more irons on the fire and still testing to see how reliable it is.

I will keep this updated as I go.

When you say still testing, yo see how reliable it it is, I thought the selling point of brushless was no maintenance and longevity.

What possible reliability issue are you keeping an eye on?

Mike

have no problems with the Inrunner motors at all, other than the weight. But that is the motor that I found works best (so far) in drag cars.
This motor is a mini drone motor. It has the balls to push a 115 gram car 40 mph, I’m going to run some heat readings on it to see how warm it gets. Just might test it to failure, then I will have an answer to the reliability questions. It’s small !

Next step is a 60 gram funny car mule.

Keep em green !

What happens to them when they get warm?

I don’t know maybe pop a coil and stop running ? They are $12.00 motors to be used in a drone with a prop/ fan on them spinning at high speed. That would make air flow around the coils to cool them. It’s in a car that has no fan or air flow, also I’m putting way more vdc to them than what they usually run on. It might work on a road course with less vdc than my 16.2

I can drop the voltage to 14.1 for heat test too.

Its all new to me too. So test test test and see what happens for better or worse.

Dave after 5vdc is applied to the switch it takes 62 milliseconds for the switch to come on as you put it.

I think I saw the wires in your hand but wish to verify. This is hooked to a typical two wire controller?

yes it is or you can use a simple push button on/off switch. We have used pretty much all the drag controllers on the market.

I’m not a big fan of the All the bells and whistles controllers, I have used a Cidex drag controller since day ,one never had a problem with it. That’s what I prefer.

Just for info, I can cover the motor up if I lay a Dime on top of it. That’s how big around it is.

Its 1/2 inch wide endbell to endbell. It weighs 7.5 grams.

That's an impressive weight and size, but the ET's you quote are slow for that type of car.

I don't think there is a desire for a tiny , light motor, especially in a bar car.

There are a multitude of $12-$17 motors that are much faster.

What might be interesting is in a nobar.

With a light motor in the back, you might be able to get away with much less weight in the front.

I just literally picked up a gear set that was laying on my bench and put them in. I didn’t test the Hemi car for ET per say, just wanted to se if it would make a pass or two. It did. I didn’t mess with the gears as far as changes to see what I could get out of it.

More too come.
