On the worldwide video slot chat this week, I will be going through the process of hydro-dip paintwork and will dip a body shell to show the process.

Greetings and welcome Alan!
A few years ago, I had attempted to hydro-dip a few of my slot car bodies, but for me, I felt they were too heavy.
I cannot recall what type of paint I employed - though I'm aware that quite a few people that have posted their techniques on YouTube, have used "oil-based" paints - at least the videos I had viewed.
I decided to mask the outside of the Lexan bodies so the hydro-dipping would coat the inside.
A couple of points I observed after hydro-dipping the bodies:
- In some areas of the body, the paint DFT (Dry Film Thickness) was not evenly distributed (some areas were thicker, and made the body feel "out-of-balance." My technique most likely was the culprit! LOL.
- I mounted the bodies to test impact resistance, and the paint did not hold up on impact - it cracked/flaked off in some areas. (Prior to dipping, I did clean/scuff the inside to aid paint adhesion).
But that was my one and only experience with the process.
What type of paint will you be employing in your process and will you be dipping the inside or outside of the body?
I'm looking forward to your results.
Thanks, Alan!
Ernie

I'll address your concerns during the demo.
Just putting my crib sheet together now and trying to figure out how to get the camera angle right for the dip.

That looks exceptional Alan!
Thanks for sharing - the paint job is "right on the money" LOL!
Please keep us posted when you or should you decide to continue HD'ing more bodies.
Great job Alan!
Thank you.
