Hey guys:

Can anyone tell me what brand and part number this body is? I'm almost positive it's an Outisight body but can only guess that it is a Toyota or maybe a "333."  Any help, especially a O/S part number, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The one in the middle and right are definitely OS 333.  The one on the left might be a U-333.  No idea on the parts numbers.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Dom:

I think you are correct that the first one is an O/S Ferrari "Ultimate 333", #O/S-062U.  Not only are the front fenders narrowed at the front but the little 1/32nd scale driver molded into the regular "333" has been replaced with a larger 1/24 scale figure which necessitated making the roll bar thinner.  It looks like the spoiler and side dams have been enhanced a bit too, hence making it an "Ultimate 333".

Thanks!

Aren't all O/S bodies marked and labeled in the rear?

I think that's generally true, but I don't think anything was ever 100% with OutiSight bodies.

It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison road test with same chassis/motor combo, are the wheel bases different?

John:

They are all the same wheelbase, and it would be interesting but these are older bodies with a lot less downforce than what is being run competitively today.

John, the OS 333 was around when Matt owned QCS. I forget if it was used in local GTP, or GT-12 races, maybe CASRA. I thought the body was big & ugly, so I never ran one.

Ah yes, Bill. that's where i had seen that style before. I probably still have a couple.  Jay with a good retro chassis under it, may still be competitive, but not with me driving it.

Those were all step wings so not likely GTP. May have been A Production (low downforce flexi 12s)...

OS reissued some of their GTP bodies with a stepped wing, so some bodies had a couple different versions. I recall CASRA using low downforce flexi 12s, but not ANE AMCA. ISRA might have too. I'm thinking ANE AMCA ran B production,  which was a flexi w/ Contender or S>Wasp arms. The first stepped wing bodies(JK's) were called GT-1s. Today I think they would be considered LMP.

Not sure that is a Ferrari 333SP. The ones we ran in IMCA in the early '90s were quite a bit different. Scale rules didn't allow a scooped rear wing, it had to be stepped like the two bodies in the rear. But some organizations did allow scooped wings, so manufacturers had to make both versions.

Here's what I ran back then, in C-2 class.  (excuse the dust, it's been sitting on a shelf for almost 30 years)

It more closely resembles the real thing.

Dave:

Here is a listing from PCH so I think we have the correct info.  That said I think this is a terrible rendition of the actual Ferrari which was pretty cool looking.  IMHO one of the ugliest bodies ever made, not to mention the mini 1/32 scale driver!

That's what the ad says. Sure doesn't look anything like the real 333SP, but I guess that is typical of vac-formed slot car bodies.

I just poured over a couple hundred photos of the cars that ran in the series, but didn't see anything that looked exactly like the body shown above.

Dave,

Vac-formed bodies handle so well and the cars go so fast, one doesn't see the body details or lack thereof until the car parks.  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

No, this particular body is not typical of all vac bodies, it is ugly, but isn't the first ugly slot car body, nor will it be the last.  :)

Jay is going to paint these bodies a solid yellow. What details are you going to miss?  :sarcastic_hand:

The 333 was my go-to in C1 when Lou Pirro started CASRA.

Good-humored fun I know but I will defend Jay a little.

Solid yellow yep that is Jay but he does a lot of detail painting and his cars are some of the best-looking on the grid IMHO.  :good:

Jay lived in Germany for eleven years (IIRC) and I think a little of the Teutonic obsessive character might have rubbed off on him.

Along those lines, when I visited Jay a few weeks back to attend the 12 Hours of Sebring with him, I took some shots of his now-completed home raceway which I'll try to get posted today. You've never seen a home raceway like his before, I promise...

Slot cars are parked far more than they are racing. And if the details are not important, why have a concours at the scale events?

Here's what a few of my cars generally look like, all yellow but not too plain. A little better detail than most.

Jay, there's nothing "typical" about your vac bodies! They look great. :)

But, I wasn't the one who tried to corral all vac bodies as being "typical." They simply are not. "Lipstick on a pig is still a pig."
