New raceway coming to Bakersfield, CA

I want to share with all of you that I plan to open a track and hobby shop in Tehachapi, California. I have mentioned it in a couple of other forums, but it's pretty close to official now.
I've secured a lease for a space, found a road course that I plan to pick up, and am in talks with a builder for a new 1/8-mile dragstrip.
I appreciate all of the advice I've gotten on here and look forward to hearing more.
Thanks,
Ryan

What kind of road course?
I'm in talks with a guy for a used one. If we agree to a deal, I'll post a picture of it. My store is going to be fairly small, so I plan to have about a 90' 8 lane road course and a 1/8 dragstrip. If I'm unable to buy this used one I'm in talks with a track builder for a new one.

Another SoCal track!
My advice is to listen to Jim Honeycutt and other long term raceway owners. They seem to have the magic combination of having both the racing junkies and the more casual slot car customer. You need both. Most of all, make your place FUN to come to and hang out.
Good luck!

Hi Ryan,
This is great news and I send my best wishes. Although I live in Tucson and too far away to make frequent visits, Tehachapi is on my way to a couple of my current favorite tracks. Covid-19 restrictions have kept me away from California for over a year, but I am hoping to change that this year. Keep us informed of your progress and hope to visit you later this year.
Regards,
Bill

Thanks, Ryan.
I consider myself a wing car guy because almost all my collection has air control, but I will run on just about any kind of slot track. Look forward to checking out your road course, whatever it happens to be.

So it's official now, but we are no longer going to open in Tehachapi.
"Track Time Hobbies" will be located in Bakersfield on Wible Road!

That's great news Ryan!! Bakersfield is a lot more accessible than Tehachapi for most of us!! Wish you the best and I'll see you there when you're ready to go!! Did you get the small road course from Las Vegas?

Great!. Bakersfield has always been one of the centers of hot rod culture, now it will have a slot track.
"Willin'" was a tune I did many times while subbing for a friend in a band that was loosely copied after "Asleep at the Wheel". Although we did it more in the style of Linda Ronstadt. The band was one of the regulars at the "Stables" in Northlake. Knowing the lyrics, I might agree with you, Mike.

Bob Scott has posted a drawing of the hillclimb track he is building on his slot car racing Facebook page. Should be a nice, small hillclimb. I'm excited about having another track to visit in California and looking forward to it.
