Keep it simple just go 4 lane analog and run simple races for fun.

66 years old when I built the current track and 1/2 inch MDF wasn't too hard to handle. I have a pickup truck and saw horses, so most of it I just slid onto the sawhorses and cut my shapes, Most pieces ended up being about half the weight of a full sheet. A helper would have been great, but the way I work, a helper would laugh at my skills and how I do stuff.

If you do build a track paint it with XIM UMA paint. Dennis Samsons Pebblestone track works great with it and we have used ALL types of tires on it with no glue.
Buy it anywhere but here is what it looks like :

Barney, was the track surface left white or did he put on a color coat? From your experience with it would it be something worth trying on larger track refurbs?
Thanks,

Sounds like good paint. I'm happy with my latex paint and silicone tires, but a paint that works equally well with sponge would be nice.

OH yes and people have even painted their plastic tracks with good results. As far as color yes you can get tint put in it for several shades of grey or even black. I painted my test/ setup track with it in a darker grey than Dennis Samsons Pebblestone track. You can find it maybe here on old posts or another slot forum

Hey Matt we clean the track first with a vac then a red dash duster and then break in the track with our sponge tired scratch built cars first. Its then ready for anything we run that day if its proxy cars (with all different types of tires or our own cars with MB slot or NSR rubber or urethane tires on our PROC cars (Like IROC but we call it PROC (Pebblestone Race of Champions)
We race the scratch cars last in the day and they are rockets with 48K motors and a full 12volts on all racing at Pebblestone ... (as god intended) No 10 volt on this track!

Good pics, it was great to see Craig in better days too. You guys continue having fun racing with old friends as it doesn't get any belter than that.
