After more than a year of darkness, Electron Raceway has finally opened. Eight slot heads showed up to race Early Modified and a True Scale Mixed race on 4/19/21
Track conditions were quite good but after a long hiatus many were a bit rusty so no new records were set.
Early Modified
This is a new class that was developed during Covid to add interest and variety to our existing classes. The Modifieds utilize a standard Econo Chassis with a rattle or side to side movement (no hinged side pans are allowed). Bodies include plastic model bodies of coupes and sedans for the model years 28-48 (no convertibles allowed). Fenders are to be removed and the car may have a top hood, however hood or not, the motor must be visible. The class calls for Deathstar or ProSlot 16D power.
Rich led wire to wire to win with 87.3 laps. Bob gave Rich a run for his money but came up more than a lap short to finish second. James running a loaner 37 Ford from Rich was a couple of laps behind Bob for third. The battle for fourth was very close but in the end, Joe edged out Ron by two sections. Below are detailed results and images of the cars.
Mixed Race
For the mixed race, I allowed the racer to select any True Scale car with the exception of GT1. Our True Scale Classes are based on a production chassis (Scholer, Scaleauto, Slotting Plus, Plafit or 2NASTE). These are all H bracket European style units that require no soldering. Bodies are plastic or resin and classes include, Sports Car, Trans Am, Grand Sport (endurance cars) and more. The classes, with the exception of GT1, call for Deathstar or ProSlot 16D power. The GT1 class calls for Falcon or Hawk 7 power plants.
Again, Rich led wire to wire to win with 88.4 laps but Bob was close behind, challenging Rich in every heat. In the end, Bob finished only a half lap behind Rich for second. Joe and Ron battled for the bottom step of the podium. Ron was first in the barn finishing with 85.2 laps. Joe entered his last heat with 60.3 laps. He managed to score 21.6 laps in his last heat to edge out Ron by a single section. So it was Joe finishing third and Ron fourth.
