Garland Winston Brown, 67, died Friday, April 30, 2021, at his residence.
He was born November 24, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was the son of the late Garland Washington and Betty Collins Brown. He was a member of the High Point Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He worked as a welder with Mickey Truck Bodies for many years and later worked with Northern Tool Company. Garland was former owner of Archdale Slot Car Racing and had been a CB radio enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Meredith Brown, whom he married on March 1, 1981; sister, Gerry Zurcher; and brother, Larry W. Brown.
Garland is survived by his daughter, Venus Carrero (Gary) of Sophia; sons, Garland W. Brown II (Crystal) of Pfafftown and Larry Wayne Brown of Durham; two grandchildren, Katie Brown and Taylor Brown; sisters, Vicki Acosta (Eddie) of Thomasville and Barbara Buchanan of Chesapeake Bay, Virginia; brother-in-law, Spencer Zurcher of Sanford; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Garland’s life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 6, 2021, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, with David Kleeberg officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point.
The family will receive friends from 12:15 to 1:45 PM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
