That is actually a steal for the quality that you get.
I have my grandfathers Gerstner boxes that he bought as a present to himself after WW2. I'm actually a little embarrassed to admit the h*ll that I put the one through in my teens when I used it as a tackle box I used to drag it around on my bike all over the place. But it held up amazingly well and ironically looks quite similar to the kit you posted. I thought about sending it to get refurbished but the bumps and bruises add character and all have memories. But I did get a few parts from them including new feet and they repaired my latch for me.
If you want a heirloom quality product you cant go wrong with Gerstner. My wifes jewelry box came from them and my oldest daughter has a keepsake/jewelry box that they sell and she loves it. Our youngest daughter cant wait to get hers too. The stuff isnt cheap but it's worth it and they made my daughter feel like a real princess at the store when she got hers even though its one of the least expensive items they sell. They found purple felt for her, showed her the different finishes and much, much more including a personalized name plate that says it was made just for her. They even sent her pictures of it being made and she met a few of the people when we went to pick it up. The whole experience in itself was worth the cost and it's something she'll always cherish.

They might look similar but I can assure you they are not the same. You couldnt buy the same quality wood or hardware used in the Gerstner kit for $30-40. Let alone a complete box.
Both products have their place but they are FAR from the same thing. A Gerstner box is something you buy once and have for a lifetime.

I'm all for buying American made stuff, but that seems really expensive for what you get.
