Love 'em!  Love 'em all!  The artwork on the Auto Hobbies box might be the earliest memory I have of slot cars.  Born in '64, but my dad had this kit, and I do have memories of him setting up his Monogram track in our living room once a year and running stuff around with my older brother.  Eventually I got to play, and the Auto Hobbies kit and the Monogram Ford GT kit, boxes and cars, are still my two favorites!

Saw the AC Cobra Coupe at Le Mans in early 2000s before they split the "Vintage" off to its own event weekend.  Simply stunning in person!

I am really lucky to see all 6 Cobra Daytona coupes at Goodwood and meet Peter Brock He kindly autographed my slotcars. He was at Goodwood I think in 2019 selling Superperformance Daytona Coupes along with his colleague Alan Grant.

The book I purchased of his car career is (I think) called "The Road to Modena" solve the problem of identifying the two Lang Cooper he designed . The first being the prototype that turned out to be too complicated. Tamiya made this as a slot car called the "King Cobra".The De Thomaso P70. The other Lang Cooper that Revell called a Cooper Ford. I saw that restored at Goodwood By Peter Brock with the ring tail spoiler that was also supposed to be fitted on the Daytona Coupe.

Some of my favorite cars.

Regards Allan

Hey Allan, just watched this over the weekend. Real nice how Shelby screwed Pete on a big deal. Probably not the only guy Shelby ran over.

Does anyone know if the Series 1 and Series 2 front valance is the same mold?

Yes series 2.

Just poured it, but the rubber was old, and did not level like It did 6 months ago. I think the air got to it.  I will de mold it and see what I get.

I will need fresh rubber.  Thought I could scrape the bottom of the barrel. :dash2:

I will de-mold and see if the mold is good enough to get a part.

Here is the S1 (now restored interior) and S2 interior side by side. Notice the extra room for the Super Challenger motor on the S2 .

Manged to pull a, good enough for now, side pipe for the one missing on my S2. Maybe I will make a better mold when I get some more RTV.

The front valance mold looks o.k. missing some detail, but its a shape I can work with. I push some J.B. weld into the mold and I will see what I get soon.

Pulled a part, and guess what, it is usable :clapping:  Couple of pin holes but nothing missing. I will cut the flash off, fit to the S1 body and prime it all together.

Its the small things :)

Hi Gary, can you tell us more about your "Mostly Series 2" I see it has no rear spoiler  but has the all the S2 vents and even the rivets and side pipes.

Was the spoiler cut off?

I see the rear panel is S1 too. Is there more to this build?

Years ago I found the body , sealed on the card, but missing the parts which would have been in a smaller sealed bubble . You spotted the S1 rear panel and I also used the S1 front valance to complete the body. The spoiler was missing as were the side pipes . I believe the spoiler may have been optional like the Auto Hobbies version. I cobbled the side pipes from sprue ,made the racing stripes from tape, and applied decals from other K&B kits.

Nice job Gary,

I assumed the rear wing was molded in on the S2. I will look at mine. I was thinking I wanted the rear wing on my S1 and to that end, I would take a mold from the S2.

The spoiler is a separate piece.

Your correct Jeff, it looks like it drops into a couple of holes.

I would be easy enough to fabricate from flat stock.

Got the front valance trimmed to fit and glued, filled a few pin holes and got it primed.

I will give a day for the hole mess to dry, then sand and re-prime and see what I have.

Thinking, it may look best to drill out the low lights, Then I can inset the lights and then cover with a clear cover.

Like this?

FYI

I found this pic which clearly shows the series 1 has a much simpler front valance.

Riccardo,

Love your Cobras. Love the color on the K&B, can you share what brand and name it is?

Love how you added the spoiler to the Series 1 K&B tail. Good reference for what the series 1 looked like.

I used a S2 front valance because that's what I had to mold.

I cut out the openings and still need to do more work, seen here.

Side pipes are cool as is the added 3D gas fillers :good:

Making progress on the Cobra GT's

Doing a number on the series 1 body. I have added flares front and rear. Raised the body line to give more room for the exhaust, also re-cut the door lines so it is more like the series 2.

I do need help with the wheel inserts. I would love to find wheels inserts that look like this.

Any body seen these available? Thanks for any help.

The series 1 is in the body shop. Here is a couple of pics on the progress so far. Trying to decide if I should take the windows out as the front has some nasty stress cracks .

Martin, you've probably seen this already but Peter Brock designed a revision of the original car which looks strangely familiar:
