I just completed a Ferrari 250 GTO using an Italeri model kit.  The chassis is Ulrich.  A brass guide mount was made to replace the missing chassis part.  The car is powered with a Pittman DC77 6 volt motor.

The used Russkit wire wheels were cleaned up, and Paul's tires are used.  The bevel gears are Tradeship.

I covered details of the Cobra previously.  The chassis is a hybrid Ulrich/Dynamic, and the car is 36D-powered.  The body is Monogram.  Wheels are Revell.

Here is a Ford Mkll I built using a Fujimi model kit.  Cox running gear.

Thanks Martin.  Looks like we have been working on similar Cobra projects.  Ron was kind to give me this Uncle Gary Cobra to finish.  Uncle Gary originally built it as a drag race car.  I added some detail and graphics to the body.  A Plafit chassis and Pro Track wheels replace the drag race parts.  Powered with a Falcon 7.  PLN driving the car.

I noticed that too. What brand Cobra body is this?

Its not the K&B that's for sure. Were the flares added here too?

I do not know what kit Uncle Gary used.  The flairs are sheet styrene.

Here is an AMT 289 Cobra.  Will painted and detailed the body.  I added a Kemtron chassis (drop arm added), Pittman 65 motor, magnesium wheels and Paul's tires.  Nice driving car with moderate power.

I built one of these kits when they were first released. Boy was it small. The A.C. Cobra has always been one of my favorites. Growing up in ME, the next door neighbor had a friend who owned a bright red 427 Cobra. Of course, my 289 AMT kit ended up bright red too. :laugh2: I never did understand why those AMT kits came with a opening trunk. Those 427 Cobras use to do 0-60 MPH-0 in less that 10 seconds. Rodney, this one built into a nice looking slot car. I'll have to keep my eye out for a reissued kit.

Bill, the AMT 289 Cobra is smaller and the Kemtron chassis that I think was made for 1/32nd scale fit well.

During the 90's, Rick Thigpen and I ran in a vintage race series held at Slot Car Junction located in South San Francisco.  Rick built and ran this Ford Mkll.

Rick was doing well in the race until he de-slotted into another lane, and the car took a wall shot.  There was a loud thud, and the nose of the Ford shattered.  Rick was tired of this car and gave it to me to restore.  I pieced the Ford's nose back together, and the crash damage is barely noticeable.

Rick used a Dynamic chassis, production pans, and a Pittman can motor in the car.  The car is very fast, and is kind of hairy to drive.  The motor is like an on/off switch with little mid range.  This is a heavy car (the pans are lined in brass), so do not exceed the limits in the turns.  The mass will take over.

Notice the body sides are flattened out to allow for the wide chassis pans.  Rick said he used wood blocks and a heat gun to flatten out the sides.  Very cool car, Rick.

Thanks for saving the car Rodney and I love the vintage picture of the race starting lineup. I was really happy with the way the car turned out when I first built it and very sad when it was destroyed......the front end really was torn off. I don't know how Rodney puts these things back together but as he would say, "I'm glad it's in one lump again".    :good:

Thanks Matt.  Rick, it was nice to save the car.  The Slot Car Junction vintage races were great fun.  We frequently had enough  entrants to run two vintage class races.

Here are a couple of Lester's cars at Slot Car Junction.  Lester raced the Ferrari P4 that was powered with a 36D motor.

I think I finally made the cut ? and can now prove I was there at Slot Car Junction. Yes it was good times. I loved the swap meets too.

Not to correct you Rodney but that is my fat Ferrari F1 car. Now sitting with its stable mates. A Thigpen Eagle on the left with some of my added detailing. Then a Factory painted Lancer Watson Ford mounted to a JAD chassis, again with some of my added details.

Have not looked at the Ferrari F1 in a while, but it has a 36D in a Dynamic chassis.

Be great to see a line up of characters. If you have any more pics of folk at SCJ ?

I now remember the Revell Ferrari 250 GTO (in your line up pic, post 12) gracefully drifting around the turns at SCJ. It stuck with me as this was my first slot car in 1966 and mine did not work that good. It fell over as I remember.

This 1967 Ford Mk lV was built using an IMC model kit.

A simple brass rod chassis was constructed.  The 16D motor is angled down for a lower center of gravity.  The 16D motor has a Mura 28 single armature, Arco magnets and an A-can Mura endbell.  Urethane rear tires and a Ninco light kit were installed.

The car is great in the turns with little body lean.  The motor is scary fast.

Thanks Pablo.  Here is a 1/32nd scale Cobra built by Ed Costa.

Deciphering the notes on the car from Ed Costa dated May 2001, the car has been rebuilt/built with a re-issued Monogram body that is similar to a MRRC body, and fish tires that replaced the rear tires.

Ed's notes from May 2001:

"Gears and rear wheels are original Atlas" and "fronts are vintage low grip tires with vintage rims"

'It is powered with an Atlas AT-1601 6-volt little bomb motor"

"Interior is scratch built with a Cox driver figure"

"Three point floating body mount design".

"It (the body) is not painted, but highly polished and waxed"

"In its day, this slot car ran circles around the best Revell, Monogram and Cox offerings".

"I have no doubt that today, it would be competitive in any 1/32 vintage club race"

A jewel.
